Met one in a Tempest last night, we tangled but eventually he managed to end up on my six ...had to flee after that!  D9 is a Tempest killer for sure!

Heh, tangled with a tempest. He outturned me quite easily.

So I tried outclimbing him. No luck.

Managed to outroll him, get h2h, dive under lasers and extend.

Tempest is one helluva bird.

I was in a D9 right along the coast between 1 and 19. He was turning the thing like a zeke I took a few runs at him (along with 10 other guys) but none of us got him. I thought I had a good postion to get him but he just pulled away on the deck. The Tempest is a very good plane....

Yup.  Was running some tests on the new planes last night and it seemed like the Dora accellerated the quickest.

So I grabbed one on a mission and took it up.  Got me a Ta152 when he tried to dive under me to run and got a Tempest on a front quarter snapshot a little later.

Only thing I've noticed tho is that the Dora bleeds E pretty quick.  Got into a tangle with 3 Yak9Ts (not smart in the first place but hey, I was feeling pretty good) and the fite quickly ended up down low.  After the first couple of turns, I was pretty low on E and just couldnt get it back.  Dora doesnt do too well once you bleed its E...handling is MUCH more problematic than a 51 once its slow.

All I can say is "The Fw190D-9 is NICE!"

I don't normally fly German aircraft, but this could convert me.

At least until we get the Spit 14.

I took a Tempest up for a sortie last night.  A D9 came in with a slight e advantage (very slight) and tried to egress on the deck.  It pulled away from d900 to d 1.4... then it started to slow and I eventually got it some 15 miles later.

I couldn't believe the D9 was pulling away until I started to think about it.  It seems both aircraft are modeled pretty well on the deck in a straight line.  The rest I don't pretend to be experienced enough to comment on.

3 D9 kills last night

Dora/D9 is as lot of fun.  I can't say I'm a huge fan of the rattling guns...all the books I've read mention what a good gun platform such-and-such airplane is...can't say I recall reading about airplanes jarring about as the guns were fired.

One think I noticed, like you guys, was the quick E bleedoff on the D9.  If you get under 250, she likes to snap onto her back if you are twisting about.  Nice guns, good amount of ammo and *real* nice to fly high and dive with.  I wasn't seeing myself turn into a lawndart at 450mph...nice to be able to PULL UP

I spent most of my night in Ju88s...trying to earn more perk points for the Blitz

Anyone notice the aiming point never changes when you fire guns? It's like the pilot and wings (or gun mounts) are seperated from the fuselage and it rattles around you...

Like the G effect I guess.

Yes, you would notice the gunfire on many a/c, especially if they fired asymmetrically. The bigger the guns, the bigger the effect.

Jigster - wouldn't that just be the illusion caused by the reflector gunsight, which changes slightly with small head movements?

dunno... just a thought.
