Heya bud. I came from AW too. What was your CPID there? I flew the AW109G-2 in FR almost exclusively. It would hang with a Spit there if handled properly, but it certainly was not easy to do. Spits were tough there as they are here. Biggest diff is flaps ain't gonna help ya like they did in AW. That was the edge in AW.
I'm trying my damnedest to get the hang of AH's 109. Gettin there but its a bit more challenging still than AW's was--which is just fine with me. Still haven't found the same level of comfort with these 109s. But I'm a persistent bastid and I won't "dumb down" in my choice of ride.
You'll find these 109s have many of the same strengths and weaknesses as their AW cousins. They're excellent climbers. The later models have better speed. They turn fairly well--better than most. Spits and N1's are not to be turned with generally. Or Zekes or Hurris of course--just like in AW. You'll find out what you can and can't get away with in time. Experiment. Get killed doing it. So what.
They compress very easily at over 400mph so watch out. If you do, try chopping throttle and adding a little sideslip with the rudder. If things get really ugly use a lot of up elevator trim to save you from lawn darting.
The already horrid roll rate is amplified at speed. Rolls like a pig at over 300. However pitch control remains good in that range. Just like in AW.
Flaps are all but useless that I've found. The 109 gets a bit unstable in turns between 150-200mph. You'd think a notch of flap would help but if it does I haven't gotten the hang of it. More flap just makes things worse. So forget about flaps.
Guns are fairly weak if you take the basic arrangement. I usually take just the single 20 in the nose as I'm a terrible shot and need the extra ammo. The 30 will do a lot more damage but the deal is you have to hit what you're aiming at hehe. You can take the gondolas for extra punch but they add a lot of drag and will essentially negate what strengths the 109 has. I never take gondolas unless I KNOW I'm goin buff hunting.
Mind your trim as the 109 likes to be flying in trim. I fly in and out of combat trim. Depends on the situation. Combat trim seems to help my shooting a bit. I still suck there tho.
Good luck in AH bro. Hope to see ya up sometime. The CT has 109s in it--stop in there sometime.

Well I'm new and always liked the looks of the German planes. I had hoped to learn the German planes in AH. In Air Warrior the 109 was pretty close to a spit. It was pretty much almost as easy as the spit to fly, but a little more of a challenge. I realize this isn't AW, but it's my only frame of reference. The biggest problem in AW with the 109 was it tended to be sparse on ammo. Something good for holding up liquor stores
Well so far the 109 has been very difficult for me to not spin in AH. Also I just never see them in the air, which leads me to think they may be modeled different here. Is the 109 that difficult to fly in AH? I'd like to pick a turn fighter and a BZ plane to learn on and stick with. I'm pretty happy with the 190 for a BZ plane (although I don't see many of those compared to the 51). And the spit just takes so much flak as a newbie plane.
Also I feel the spit is probably not going to do much to force me to improve my skill compared to some of the other planes.
So is the 109 a viable plane I should stick with? I'd hate to put a lot of time into it just to learn it's not up to par in AH. Any comments welcomed. Thanks! LeadPump
