I like it.

Ive followed the game since its first disastrous (sp?) release in early 90's, and BCM is just TOO good..just as its earlier versions.

For those of you who dont know about the game:

It caters to all styles of player.

There's 1st person ground combat action for the quake crowds (though itd be more like Tribes mixed with Rogue Spear),

There's 1st person COCKPIT for fighter pilots.. and there are both atmospheric and space fighters.

There's Micro and Macro management of resources, personnel and issuing orders for the strategy minded.. when you command a Capital Ship (cruiser or carrier or transport). Each and every one of your crew is modeled in the game.

You can be a criminal, a trader, military, mercenary, paramedic, police, tourist, etc etc ... you can be from ANY race and ANY caste (read: occupation) in the game. Each one has access to certain assets in the game.

And all of this in REAL time.

Best of all, you can be a Commander (aka, command a capital ship), send your alter ego (AE) to the shuttle bay in your ship (currently that is done by the AI, but in future releases the interiors of every ship will be modeled so you can WALK your way there), once you in shuttle you can FLY the shuttle yourself down to the planet.. once in the planet you can EXIT the shuttle and walk around... and hey, if your shuttle has a HUMVEE or a nice ground vehicle, you can deploy it and drive it around. In MP the vehicles will even allow other players to hop on them and use the mounted armament on the vehicle.

In the upcoming MP patch  and in the Massive Online play version of the game, BCOnline, you may even command starstations.

The universe is HUGE. And each one of the planets has dozens upon dozens of cities and military installations where you can duke it out.

You can do virtually everything you want in the game. This is ELITE bred with PRIVATEER bred with Unreal Tournament and then bred again with kick bellybutton stuff.

Still not sure about the game? You can download the FULL Battlecruiser v2.09 from the http://www.3000ad.com website and see what the game can offer you . NOTE: V2.09 is the older version, graphics are waay lower than in BCM.. and BCM has much, much, much more features than 2.09.

I love the game. I really suggest you guys try it out. Go get your copy asap :)

Pros: all the above

Cons: NOT for those unwilling to spend some time LEARNING the game. It has a steep learning curve when you play COMMANDER career. But you can at least still play as a grunt in the ground or as a fighter pilot.

Just to give you a taste:

I play in commander career, took my cruiser into earth's atmosphere, hovered at 40k alt. I tell my alter ego to go outside the ship.. and I find myself on TOP of my ship, OUTSIDE the ship, at 40k walking with me magnetic boots. Ordered my ship to fly to a nearby beach.. my bridge crew dutifully flew the gargantuan ship over the water towards the beach. In mid-flight I VISUALLY spot something in the water.. Lo and behold, its an AIRCRAFT carrier. Plot some points for my ship, it ends up hovering right besides the carrier. I HOP from the starship ONTO the carrier's deck. Stroll around the deck for a while then see the sea below... looks like a good time to swim, so I jump off the ship into the water and begin swimming. At that point I had neglected my ship and it tried to land near me.. in the water.. so I ended up swimming outside my wrecked starship half-submerged in the pacific ocean.. and im sure the CV skipper was laughing his bellybutton off.

And I wont even tell you of the 40k skydiving trips with a jetpack..them most fun :)

Here's a few pics of something like I said above, only this guy landed his spacefighter in the carrier and went for a swim :)

This one is more like mine.. that dang starship splashed down near the sailing vessel hehe :

The game may have sharks and other wildlife added soon too. :D
