Kawasaki Ki-61-I ?
« on: April 14, 2001, 01:33:00 PM »
So what is it?

Ki-61-I 1175hp/348mph

Ki-61-Ia 2*20mm + 2*7,7mm or
Ki-61-1b 2*30mm + 2*7,7mm

Ki-61-II with 1450hp engine had 4 cannons in wings so ours can't be that one?

Hopefully it will have all the armament variations for the Ki-61-I.  This means either 4 MG's or 2 MG's and choice of MG 151/20, Ho-5, or the 30 mm gun.  I'm hoping for the Ho-5.  Guys think the Hispano is strong, wait until they try this baby.

hmm looks like I found "our" Kawasaki; http://perso.wanadoo.fr/christophe.arribat/stofki61.html

It's Ki-61-Ia of major Teruhiko Kobayashi with 1175hp engine, max speed 366 mph at 16,405 ft.
Armament is 2*MG151/20mm and 2*7,7mm mg or maybe 2*12,7 + 2*7,7mm.

Nice work Staga... but one question... Do you see any kill markings on that plane in the picture at all? I can't find 'em.

EDIT: Maybe our version isn't the one you think Staga... read a bit further down:

Quote
Because of maintenance problems, some aspects of the plane were modified. The resulting Ki.61-I-KAI-c (KAI = "modified") had a slightly longer fuselage, a fixed tailwheel, and strengthened wings for a better diving speed. Wing pylons could be fitted. The armament now included Japanese-built Ho-5 20 mm cannons. Production started in January 1944; with 1,274 planes built, it was the most numerous sub-version.

Screenshots show our Ki-61 as having wing pylons.

Um, to the best of my knowledge, Japanese pilots did not paint kill markings on their planes. Don't quote me though.

OMIGOSH! THIS MEANS WE WILL GET THE B-29 SOON!! YES!! I HAVE READ LOTS OF BOOKS AND THE B-29 WAS A GREAT GROUND ATTACK PLANE TOO! WOW!! PYRO MUST BE SAYING THIS, RIGHT!?!

hehe, had to be the first to make a pointless leap-of-logic in this otherwise happy thread.   Seriously, I likes the WB Tony verra much, and look forward to AH's version.

By the way, Teruhiko Kobayashi lost this No. 3295 Ki-61-1c in Jan 21 1945,
because he did the air-to-air kamikaze attack to B-29 (though he bailed successfully).
Also its B-29 has been shot down by it.

LOL Kieren, I think B-29 is pretty low priority on release list.

B-29 could carry 40 500lbs bombs or 20 1000lbs bombs in Mig Alley, actually could it carry these bombs in real life?

Mitsu-

hehe, actually, I don't know all that much about the B-29. I also hope it never gets modelled here. I know it had a phenomenal payload, but just what it could carry I can't say. I was really only making a joke about the way rumors get started in AH.
