Personally I'm glad they don't allow them on a board with this much traffic, they are pointless and slow down the speed if you are on a slow connection.

Yea that could be the Relaxed Realism BB and this could convert to the Full realism.

as an administrator of a separate use of vbulletin and as an observer of many bb's I think the comments about speed are very shortsighted.
Avatars, if kept to a small size, are very quick to load and personalise a message in a visual way that definitely adds to the communication and collaboration function of a BB.

I still theink they should be tried on one forum at least.

I administer my own vBulletin and have run others too such as phpBB, YaBB, Ikonboard etc. While I would'nt mind my squad using Av's on our board because we don't have the same kind of traffic it would slow down a board with HTC's kind of traffic flow. I don't see the point in changing the forums over to a faster forum software such as vBulletin that uses a faster mySQL backend only to slow it down with Av's that serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever, they might be funny once, maybe twice but after that they don't even get looked at. Why clog up your net chache storing all these files and then downloading them again when your chache is emptied. I suspect the polls have been removed for the same reason and surprised although glad that they kept the file feature switched on.
