hiya qts...these are the specifics of the system he has:
HP Visualize with 1gig pent 3
512M sdram and matrox millineum g200 sd video card with
8 M on board sdram
external 56k modem
ps/2 intellimouse and standard 101/102 keyboard..
the video card is a pci device...thnx...Ramesis

I think the basic video requirements are now 12mb. If your friend only has 8mb, that might be the problem.
I know the system specs do not say it specifically, but I beleive when we got 1.05 and the ships/fleet, the video load went up a bit as well.

The video card is certainly the problem. The system itself is more than enough for AH, but the video card is just not up to the task. If you were to get a GeForce 2 MX card (least expensive) or better yet a GeForce 2 Ti (significantly faster and about $30 more) or even GeForce 3 Titanium (very fast, but expensive), the game should fly.

I'd certainly go for a better 3D card. Matrox have a very good reputation for 2D, but not 3D.
