Normally, when I see this thread subject; I say "whups... another kill streak ended abruptly... "

At the very least, there's a story here..

Q:... whot hoppened? And what about the acks is the gripe?? issit high alt flack?? Fleet acks? is it the 20mm in close field AA? The 40MM emplacements where only one ping spells doom? Lack of enuff ack coverage for the citys?

Which particular ack gripe? (there are so many...)

I gotta agree with Hang on this, you gonna say "ack is broke", ya better say what you think is wrong with it.

Seems to be working to me, shot me down once or twice tonight.

I dont know how it can be improved, it hits aircraft that are following relatively straight flightpaths, but has a harder time hitting aircraft that are turning/changing flightpaths.

Despite what some might think, speed isnt all that critical in avoiding ack, a plane on a straight line is pretty easy to aim at, coming at you its a pretty stable target, same going away.  Crossing you its a little harder, but then if you fire a stream in front of an aircraft, the plane can be expected to fly through the stream, taking hits.

I guess I dont understand what is supposed to be wrong with the ack, seem to be working to me.  Any surviving fighter pilot from WWII can tell you they hated ground attacks the most because ack was so deadly, seems same in AH to me.

Ok Dago, here's what's wrong with it (and something I quit griping about ALONG time ago cause it obviously isn't going to be fixed).

Field and fleet small caliber guns:
The faster you travel through the ack envelope and/or the more Gs you pull the easier it is for the acks to shred you.  If I enter an ack envelope at 300+ mph I know I'm dead, and only do so if I'm after someone's perk kite >=)

Conversely I've done slow, lazy turns and loops inside the envelope in something like an N1K or spit and not take a single ping while killing every gun on the field.  Speed staying under 200mph and not pulling more than 3Gs.

You tell me which is easier to hit.

its the acks on the trains, im sure that the trains in AH should not 4 b17 power turrets on each car?

trains are "fast" moving objects that should have a very hard time aiming at you if you fly in a perpendicular course.

Hi Mates

From time to time, if I am not doing well in the air, I man ship and field guns.  Almost every time I man the field guns, there are other players manning the guns too.  I have seen many planes zoom through the field ack without being hit.  A few we hit, most we don't.

The field ack is not like shooting fish in a barrel.  You don't shoot down a lot of planes, but you do put up a lot of bullets.  The field acks are only the .37MM.  I don't believe players can man the .88's, etc. at the field.  On ships I believe you can man some of the larger weapons.

What I am saying is that a lot of times it is not AI manning the guns but other players.  The weapon seems to me to be about as accurate at one could be modeled.  Seems no different than to me than manning the guns in bombers.

Flying, I find the ack around the cities pretty tough.  Is this what you are talking about?

yep... when my controler broke I manned the field guns a little.   Any field with cons near it had the guns pretty much manned.   Hard to get a spot.   The faster a plane flys through the manned ack the harder it is to hit.

Does anyone know the effective range of these 37mm field guns?  I couldn't hit anything unless it was very close.   I woulda done better with a fifty cal.

Hi Mates

No one has ever told me the ack range.  I have noticed at the airfields that everyone seems to start firing at 3k.  Most of the kills I have made with field ack have occurred inside of 1k.  On the ships, the destroyers acks are, I think, 20mm.  You have to shoot at very close range with them.  The bigger ship guns shoot all the way up to 20k I would guess.  Have not tried anti air craft shooting with the big guns.

The best ground airplane killer is the German Ack Wagon.  I has a bigger gun than the field acks.  Being mobile you can move it all over the field or to the town.  It is pretty tough.  The quad .50's on the half track are OK too.

What Cave said.

I think it should hit the slow low turning planes easier than the guys going through the ack at 6K+ @ 300+ IAS. It's backwards. Fix it.
