Report
******

We were detailed to take Spit IX's and sweep forward along the french coast forward of the Mossies; and soon established a race track pattern at 20K between Dieppe and Le Harve. One pair was detailed to go down and monitor the same path under the heavy cloud cover obscuring the French coast (Seeker, Sog). The Squadron made contact with higher Me 190's over Le Harve diving in from a superior hieght; and lost two members performig a fighting retreat to North (GB and Badz). I believe Shane claims one kill from this engagement.

After consolidation, the flight returned to the race track pattern while fuel lasted; and then headed back to Blighty to refuel. Discipline relaxed somewhat at this point; and the Squad became rather strung out with resultant bogus bogey calls while Squad members ID'ed each ither comeing at regular intervals. The Squad refuelled at Romney with out further incident.

Mean while; the 2 ship element detailed to check under the cloud cover had arrived over Romney to hear contact reports from the Southhampton area. The contact was found to be a number of Fw190's running loose amongst a landing Typhoon squad. I believe Sog claims a 190 from this engagement.

Shane dumped due to a re-arm bug, but was allowed to re-up after some delay. During the delay the flight became seriously spread; but managed to find each other again at the Mossies way point.

Once formed; the rear elements of the flight reported 190's in visual range (Des, Troll); and tally was called (Anrky, Seeker). Two other flight members proceeded with close escort of the Mossies (Sog, FD); while Shane and Iron dived to engage further 190's threatening the Typhoons. Shane and Iron2 were lost at this engagement. The rest of the flight (with the exception of Sog) engaged 190's at some 15K; and due to admirable flying by the obviusly G-suited pilots and local time continum disturbances the fight went down to deck level before the 190's were dispatched. While regaining altitude from this action; the flight was assailed by between four to six Me 109's; and ignomiously dispatched in toto for, I believe; two kills and two smokers.

Sog remained with the Mossies performing a stirling example of close escort, before the stress became all to much and he immolated him self across the windscreen of a 109. His final score was, I believe, 3.

A tense day that once again underlined the importance of tight flying, tight communication and freshly laundered undies.

Final score: 6 for 9, all out.

Missed kills and errorata should be sent to the below:

Mosquitos from A54
Red Section - FunkedUp, Bikekil, Dasko
White Section - CFIT, Rosco, Sling
Blue Section - Salt, Dogface, Wes34th1

Approx. 5 shore batteries destroyed.
Approx. 4 AAA guns destroyed.
2 hangars destroyed.
1 fuel tank destroyed.
1 aircraft lost to enemy AAA fire.
2 aircraft lost in accidents.

I was assigned to lead a strike force composed of 308 Sqn and 92nd BG who flew with us.

First mission was to interdict a Wehrmacht convoy on the French coast between A20 and A21, composed of halftracks and tanks. Resistance sources informed HQ that Field Marshal Rommel was riding in one of the halftracks. However we had orders to press the attack only if the situation was in our favor.

We reached the French coast with our Spitfire escort and saw many enemy aircraft at high altitude coming our way, so we retreated and loitered near 8,10 while our fighters engaged. Fighters were unable to clear the enemy from the area, so we refueled at A41. Unfortunately Salt ran out of fuel on final approach and was killed in the crash landing.

Our next mission was to destroy shore batteries and AAA defences near A11. Wes34th1 became seperated from us during our refueling and he ended up attacking A15 by himself, then returning to base safely. The balance of the strike force went South, out of enemy radar range, with our escorts flanking us to the East. The escorts ran into enemy fighters and engaged them East of us, allowing us to run free towards A11. We reached a point 25 miles offshore of A11 at 15k, and turned to 090 degrees to attack. As we reached the shore we dove under the cloud cover and came over the target at 10k.

308 went in first, bombing the shore batteries and wiping out nearly all the AAA emplacements. 92nd came in next and lost several aircraft, but scored many bomb hits. Then 308 finished off the shore batteries with rockets and cannon fire. The target was completely flattened and we headed to A42 to refuel.

Once we got to A42, a time/distance calculation showed that we could hit the hangars at A15 and still make it home in time. But it would have to be a one-shot deal. One dive bombing pass then a run home at maximum speed.

We refueled, took off, and flew to A15 at maximum speed, altitude about 13k. We saw some bandits occasionally behind and above us, but Sog and Grayarea (and probably some others whose names I didn't see) kept them busy in their fighters.

We were able to bomb A15 unopposed as a result. CFIT was shot down by 40 mm AAA during the dive bombing run, and Dasko's aircraft disintegrated due to structural failure. But the rest of us safely completed our bombing runs, and as we ran for home we looked back to see two hangars and a fuel tank burning nicely.

Grayarea was tangling with some 109s who were trying to chase us, but he kept them busy and they could never quite catch us. We hit the English coast with about 2 minutes left and landed safely with about 1 minute left. Two of the 109s followed us all the way to the English coast, and they should be scored as lost because there was no possibility of them getting home in time.

Thanks to everybody who showed up, well done!

412th Quick AAR

The 412th only fielded 4 pilots due to the poor state of replacement pilots.  On active duty were BLUEmako, Fulzgold, Jonnyb and 7Sins.  We took off in 190A5's to patrol the coast but spent most of the frame fighting disco's.  Every flight member disco'd at least once, jonnyb at least 3 times.  :(

Eventually we managed to stay online long enough for 3 of the flight members to engage a mixed force of Spits and Typhoons over the channel.  At this time I was racing N after recovering from a disco to join the fight.

Unfotunately all three members of the flight that were engaged where shot down by spits for the destruction of only one typhoon.  I arrived overhead just as Fulzgold was shot down.  I proceeded to engage the only enemy in sight, a Typhoon at 20k altitude.  Knowing he was outclassed and with me on his six and closing to 600 yards, the Typhoon dove for the clouds.  Unfortunately I was seeing many warps at this stage and held my fire, didn't want to waste my ammo.

I broke off the typh and went looking for the friendlies nearby (2 190's and several Me109s were engaged with the spits that had destroyed my flight).  As I arrived on the scene the last of the spits was destroyed.  I spotted the typh I had engaged running for home over the channel on the deck and I decided to follow as I still had fuel.  The other friendlies headed for base while I followed the typh towards A42.

I caught the typh about 5 miles short of A42 and proced to blow him apart with my cannons.  Unfortunately I couldnt avoid his wreckage as I misjudged my closure rate.  With my wingtip damaged by the collision, I avoided the AAA now surrounding my aircraft and headed back out to sea.  I managed to fly my aircraft back to France and made a rather poor but safe landing wihtout the right wingtip.

412th Summary
2 x Typh confirmed
3 x 190A5's lost
1 x 190A5 recovered with damage

JG56 results:

Sortied 5 Bf109G10 from A12:

[list=1]
  • Snorkey - claims 4 Spitfires, landed safely at A14 minus left landing gear
  • Oblittoo - landed safely at A19
  • Sancho - claims 5 Spitfires (one or two may become assists), landed safely at A19
  • Nibbio - shot down by Spitfire north A20
  • Ammo - claims 2 Spitfires, shot down by Spitfire north A19
I am proud of my squads performance today.  We were consistently outnumbered throughout the frame, yet we were still able to inflict heavy damage on the enemy.  Of course, flying the 109G10 certainly helped us...

oh yeah, oblittoo and i were the two 109s chasing funked's mosquitos at the end of the frame.  If the rules state that you magically "die" at the end of a frame if your aircraft is still aloft, LOL, so be it.  I know we flew well *and* landed safely at the end, even if it was 1 minute after time was up.  Allies are going to need all the points they can get after the whupping we gave em today. :p

and thanks to all, was a good action packed frame!

Firebirds AAR:

We launched 9 Typhoons. The frame didn't start well, but improved as time went by!

Roster:

Gremlin
Grayarea
Vladd
Skyman
CJay
Jogee
Klem
Fariz
Furzy

As I was Allied CO I had placed Grem in charge of the squad itself. Our initial attack was intercepted by a higher flight of 190s, about equal numbers. With eggs and a full bomb load this was a bad position to find ourselves in so we tried to dive and run back to base. Perhaps inevitably, some were caught and Klem, Fariz, CJay and Jogee were all forced to turn and fight.  As a result we took 4 losses for 1 190 killed by Klem or Fariz...

Somewhat chastened we were still a viable force and swept East towards our Mossie strike force. After an inconclusive tangle with more 190s we RTB'ed to rearm and refuel when I spotted low cons very close to our homebase. Invesigating I ID'ed 190F8s and the squad swung into the attack. A hectic dogfight followed - I was shot down as I was bagging my second, but no other losses were sustained and the 190 group was wiped out!

Unfortunately Furzy ran out of fuel on the runway before he could reach the rearm pad, which left Gremlin, Grayarea and Skyman to carry the attack to the nme again. Calling for escort from 3 Krait Spitfires the 3 Typhoons headed towards target A15 again before coming under attack from more 190s. There then followed quite a game of hide and seek in the clouds as the Firebirds tried to get through. Skyman was forced to escape north minus eggs, whilst Grem and Gray were chased south towards the seconadary target at A11. Gray eventually unloaded his bombs at this location and blew away another 190, though sadly Grem fell in an HO with a FW (which also went down).

Skyman with 3 kills to his credit was caught by a sneaky 190 whilst on final approach to homebase - a terrible way to die but it was an admirably evil attack by the Luftwabble! So Gray was the last Firebird left up; he joined with Funkedup's Mossies and our surviving Spitfire to the final objective which they hit hard and successfully RTBed.

Overall we RTBed 2 planes.  And shot down 10 FW190s.

WTG fellas. Only sorry we lost 4 guys early, but that's the way it goes.

MAG-33(FW190F8):
Began with 6.
Hit primary target, Docks near London destroyed.
Egressing home ran into Tiffy's and Spits, and a low level battle began.  (sarcasm on:)The beautiful F8 and its turning ability resulted in 2 tiffys shot down and all of us were shot down.

Rip,

I think you may find when you see the logs that in fact u only got 1 of us tiffies. but u did get the allied CO so thats worth a couple to ya! .  Was one hell of a fight tho .  I personally was on finals at A42 when I spotted 1 190. I quickly reset the flaps gear etc and turned to fight.  Imagine my fright when the 1 190 turned in to 6.  Unfortunately we lost Vladd, but we came out as well as we could.
