Best FF stick with a good feel and good for AH?
« on: January 21, 2002, 10:44:27 AM »
Can you tell I am on a new stick hunt? Got the X36 a few days ago, its throttle refuses to go up to 100% even though I've followed all steps, it's too big for my hand and for my computer table and I haven't been able to fly with it much since it makes me feel an extreem ache in my right hand/thumb because my hand is so small. Not a bad stick and for those of you with space and a pretty large hand, I'd recomend it, like many other people.

Not sure if I will by a new stick at all, might stick with my old MS Sidewinder PS PRO stick, pedals broke down so might need new.

Got a question though, if I buy a new stick, it will be a Force Feedback.
What is the best FF stick? How much more difficult is it to fly with one and, in AH, does it give you a serious disadvantage?

I want it to stay in one piece and function more then 2 or 3 months of course, Logitech? Sidewinder FF 2? What alternatives do I have?

Thanks in Advance.

FFB sucks... I bought an MS FFB, and it was the worst POS I've ever used.

Does AH even support FFB?

IMO the best FFB stick is still the CHFFX...it's an old stick that isn't in production anymore. If you can find a used one snatch it up...these things last forever ;)

i purchased a MSFF2 about two weeks ago. I took it back about a week and a half ago :)

had it hooked up with X45 throttle and CH peds, everything worked great but the little vibrations when shooting or getting hit wasn't worth the sloppy stick feel and weirdness the FF stick gave to the game. Went back to my X45 stick..

There is a workaround for that I think. From what I remember it involves booting from a floppy first. Hopefully others with info will step in and explain it for you :D

I've been using MS FF stick(s) since it first came out.  I uhhm...really dunno why you guyz hate'em so much.  Work great for me.  I am however waiting for a quality FF stick with Pedals and the works...but, looks like that may be awhile.

Wilbuz, i would recommend you to buy a CH combat stick (or if you can affort the money, the new fighter stick).

I am using the CH combat stick and the CH pro pedals (both analog).
Its a very good combination (sad i dont have the money for the CH pro throttle).
The Stick looks similar to an original F16 stick and is relativly small, even me with my short fingers can reach every button easily.
The stick works now 2 years and the pedals 5 years without any probs.

I got a MS FFB2 a few months ago and I'm happy with it.

Eagler, if you had taken the time to look you can adjust all the different FF components in AH or turn them off completely. I have the Gun and Damage effects set very low, so the the vibration is barely noticable. I turned the Trim effect off cause it just felt wierd. The stall buffet is very nice and has replaced the buzzer as my main source of stall sensing.

Another plus is adjustable centering force. And when you release your grip on the stick it gives no force at all, which I find useful for gunning and gv's (when accelerating in an M8 i can just shove the stick forward and leave it there wihtout having to apply pressure).

The ony drawback is the centering force feels somewhat notchy, but I dont even notice it anymore and it doesnt effect my flying.

I bought a Saitek FF stick ...not real pleased with it ..I also have a small hand ....makes it a little rough to use. The buttons near the hat  can get in the way too ...they're  really close together .Rudders stiff too ...compared to my Wingman digital. I imagine it'll take some time to get use to  :(

HI !
Im using a msffb with the saitek x35t + rudder pedals and thats the best config i ever had :)
Its a bit tricky to make all work together but it sure is a nice setup.
With problems with trim and ffb just lower the strenght of the setting for the FFB stick, so u can trim the plane then it wont recenter and make a problem for you.
both saitek and ffb are usb but my pedals are analog and they need the little config program you need and is found at the satiek web site.

Wilbus : If your hand don't fit the Saitek hat that in the center of the stick ,,,,,,,,,,,, for God's sake DON'T buy a CH joystick .

I got to vote with guard , him and airmess both use that stick with foot pedals . They both pretty damn good with it , I think messy don't use the force though on it , hehe .

I know that the Logitech Wingman Interceptor joystick ( NOT ffb ) is much smaller than Saitek , it has three hats and magnet instead of pots . Plus the software would let you hook up a set of analog pedals to it . But they quit making them , I bought my last one for airsid off eBay but last time I looked they didn't have any listed for sale . He used the hell out of it for more than a year , and was still working , hat rubber was coming off is all .
