Gruden to leave Raiders after 2002

Quote
"This isn't about leverage," LaMonte told the Contra Costa Times. "There's a zero-percent chance of Jon Gruden coaching the Raiders in 2003."

Ya know... I've been a Raider fan since forever and I've had it. Davis has the best young coach there is in the NFL and again, as he has in the past, he fails to pay the man what he's worth. Gruden is by far the best coach the Raiders have had since John Madden.

After 15 years of watching the Raiders talk about "commitment to excellence," I am once again convinced that the Raiders will not not see another Superbowl victory until Al Davis is lying dead and buried.

My gawd! They are paying Gruden approximately $1.4 Million dollars a season. The Redskins are paying Spurrier four times as much and you know how many professional football games Spurrier has ever won in his life? NONE!

Think I'll go become a Denver Bronco fan until Davis dies. It can't be too long. What is he, 95?

Rock:  Ya see that Ensign, lighting the cigarette?
Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

yep, Steve raised the ole bar huh :)

Seems only fair considering some of the ridiculous money some of the players are getting, at least the majority of the coaches are able to balance their own checkbooks..

Funny spot the Glaziers have themselves in here in Tampa. Hope Dungy and the Colts kick our arse next year....

I think this is a negotiating ploy.  Al has plenty of money.  Make Gruden the highest paid coach in the league.  It's not a coincidence that the team was mediocre for 10 years until Gruden showed up.

Well cant say im an 'football fanatic' they dont show any american football games here in sweden anymore except the superbowl, so i havnt been following this season at all.

But when i was an young boy, 13-14 yrs old i got an Raiders jacket and i followed the league every season i even played football for an year as cornerback (american football is not an big sport in Sweden) but ever since i have been an Raider fan :)

I was really suprised when i heard that they almost made it to the superbowl! all these years they have sucked badly hehe!

Im not up to speed on the NFL so do the Raiders actually have an good team now?? i heard they have an decent offensive but their defence sucks....

Well they still got the coolest logo :D

You heard right Maniac.  Their offense isn't the rams, but pretty damn good.  Their defense is a stretch to call mediocre.

no current football game approaches the level of immersion as a coach that front page football had.  The Madden series is fantastic for gameplay, but it has yet to approach the complexity in play calling/creation that FPS had (except for audibles, I hated FPS 98 audibles.)  You could create your own plays in madden 2001, but not with the same flexibility you could in the FPS series.

That being said, neither Madden 2001 or FPS 98 are installed on my machine now.  I get my football fix on the PS2 with NCAA 2002.  I prefer college ball over pro ball anyways.  It'd be nice if I could design my own plays, but at least the dynasty and recruiting is interesting.  :)

As for the original post...  I seriously hope this isn't a ploy for more money.  If Gruden's agent feels he deserves more money from the Raiders he should say so.   Saying there's 0 chance of him returning in 2003 should mean just that.  If it's just a move to get more money, sheesh, I thought Gruden had more integrity than that.  That's something I'd expect from Butch Davis.  Butch outright said he was staying at Miami to his recruits and current players, then immediately bolts for Cleveland.  I guess his players and Miami's current coach don't care.  They got a ring and he had a losing season.  :D  Spurrier, on the other hand, handled leaving Florida with class.  Maybe he learned something from watching Butch the year before.
