Anybody tried Medal of Honor yet?
« on: January 24, 2002, 11:29:17 AM »
I was curious if anyone has gotten the full version of the game, and what they thought of it.

I tried the demo and was wondering if keyboard keys is the only movement option or if you can remap them to a joystick?

Why would you want to control a first person shooter with the joystick? *shudder*

You would get yer bellybutton handed to you.

I'm picking it up at lunch today.

Just like the demo, the full game tries to connect to the internet when you are playing a single player game, which causes all sorts of trouble.

Ridiculous.

Haven't had a chance to play - just got it installed, started up, saw that crap, and had to come back to work.

If it weren't for this damn deadline, I think I'd be feeling pretty ill right now... probably ill enough to go home. ;)

Well, I've played through 3 of the 6 missions - only took 3 hours, so this game is going to beat Max Payne on short...  but wow, it is a helluva good time!  (each mission consists of several varied levels)

I'll like it better once I get a realism mod for it, but the missions are fun.  They are heavily scripted, and it serves to move the story along and keep things interesting.

The Omaha beach landing is one of the coolest gaming moments ever... intense.  You really just become fixated on running your bellybutton up the beach without getting tagged.

It's pretty sweet, graphics and immersion wise. Yeah, the Normandy landing is just too cool. If you look around at some MOH fan sites, there's a Normandy Co-op multiplay mod going around. That's a blast to get a few people together and storm the beach.

Seems like you can do a LOT with mods and hacks in this game. There's already realism mods out there that help reduce Quakeness. It could very well end up with some nice co-op multiplay missions with something approaching realism.

I was lucky enough to walk into compusa just as there shipment arrived the first day it shipped. Put simply, this game is a blast! The sound, the graphics and the levels are awesome. The mulitplayer boards are very cool if you find someone hosting it with a good connection. The only gripe I have about the multiplayer is either people with toejamty connects are trying to host huge games or the coding just plain sucks at times. Im not sure if there is any server side tweaking to be done still or its just your connection since your hosting the game, but I could be wrong. Although some people with t3 lines have hosted with 32 players and it was flawless. 80 and under ping. I think its defiently worth the buy. IMHO

Have you guys done mission 4 yet, where you rescue the downed pilot?

Where the hell is the house you are supposed to take him to?  I ran around the entire map for about an hour, no bad guys left to kill, and never found it, apparently.

Take him in the church, there`s a hidden door under that big table looking thing....

It does rock but I think it could have been much more than what it is.
I`d like to have a "sim" where I am a member of an actual platoon, fighting in WWII,not some kinda `40s superhero.
Having to hit 10 times to kill someone is annoying, and supid too.
And how`bout the 190Ds in africa...lol
Multiplay is way too lagy.Even on fast servers people move not even close to as smooth as for example CS.
I`m not saying it`s not fun,but wasting the talent of so many people and cheezing out something like this game, sucks.
Reminds me of Hollywood.

BTW has anyone noticed the P47 chasing a Dora?Than they come back and the jug crashes into the building right next to you

Best game of the year!
« Reply #9 on: January 25, 2002, 09:40:22 AM »
Man, I love this game. I bought it yesterday and was up until 1:00AM playing it.  The graphics are phenomenal(I'm running at 1280x1024x32, full detail), the sounds are great, and the atmosphere is very immersive. This is also the only game I've owned in the last 10 years that I didn't disable the music, it is that good.

My advice to you? Run, don't walk, to the nearest software store and buy this game!

I'd say it was the best FPS I've played since Jedi Knight.

My favorite part of the game so far? Shooting the M1 Garand, and the cool effect of the empty clip popping out of the gun. I always loved that in the movies like Saving Private Ryan. :)

What banana said.  And I've only done the demo MP maps so far :)   I'm waiting for an opportune time to buy the box.  Never thought I'd have so much fun being a ground pounder but as long as it's multiplay (32-64) it's a hoot.  It's even more than what I'd thought WW2O would be like and it runs, plays and immerses WAAAAY more than WW2O.  Well,  except for the world scale and actual player numbers. But since I couldn't see more than 64 other players total in WW2O anyway and what's happening beyond 5 miles is irrelevant to me I think a comparison between the two games is very valid.

I prefer the non-free-for-all hosts with realism patches and grenade limits. Wish they would develop mods to diable grenades, shot guns, rockets and sniper rifles.

http://www.alliedassault.net and http://www.alliedassault.com are two places I scan for realism mods and patches (like blood! ).

They left out the blood and GR realism Wank. I'll just burn it instead of running to buy it.

That's why they dumbed it down, yes? To sell 10's of thousands more at our expense?

When they add the realism (graphical too) I'll buy 2 copies, and almost demand every computer guy i know BUY it.

Think SOF2, WWII.

YES.

The lack of blood didn't bother me, Creamo. The death animations and the grunts and groans did the trick just fine. But then again, I'm taking the game at face value, and did not assume it would be more realistic. It's just plain old fun.

But I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, sounds like Westy's realism patches and servers would be the way to go.

I haven't been this excited about a game in a long, long time.

Ghost Recon Realism, I'm guessing.

Don't worry, there will be realism patches, and there are already blood patches.
