Does any one know any true stories of someone that is stranded on an island or some other place? It has to be a true story and I would like some website that tells about it because I need this for an essay. And the longer they were in that situation the better (over a year would be perfect). I don't care how old it is, as long as it is true.

I have been looking for a while and haven't found any good stories.

On the second disk of the Cast Away DVD set there are a few stories of stranded people and a bunch of other useful information on the subject.
You might want to rent the movie if you dont have it.

Oh man. I would, because I haven't seen it and what to, but I don't have a DVD player. The VHS copy probably doesn't have any of that...

Search for the story of the U.S.S Saginaw, 1870. That is about as terrible and true a story as you can find of shipwreck, stranding and small vessel sailing as there is.

Daniel Defoe based his "Robinson Crusoe" on the real life incident of Alexander Selkirk, who died in 1721. For more infomation, try looking up "A Cruising Voyage Round the World" by Capt. Woodes Rogers, where the captain describes Selkirk's misadventure. I believe he was on an island alone for many years. Wish I had more info, but I hope this helps. I got this info from watching the History Channel, and made a tape of it.

I was once stranded during 2 hours in a 'dungeon' in the MMORPG Anarchy Online. It was a bug.

Robinson Crusoe is the book the essay is on! That example was mentioned in class, but I forgot about it. I'll use it along with the one about the men on the U.S.S Saginaw. Both should do (and possibly some more that come), the more the merry right?

I'm gunna need that luck too, I haven't written an essay in a while and back then I sucked at it. Maybe I should aim for a more modest C+ or something.

Hi Aaron:

Is this essay for a High School English class? Just curious. If it is, and you have the time, you might try using a publishing program like Printmaster Gold, so you can add a couple illustrations, such as maps, paintings, etc... Teachers love that sort of thing, because it shows creativity. Also, you can fill out the body of your essay using quotes from written accounts by witnesses or biographers. Just be sure to place a small "1", "2", "3", etc... at the end of the paragraphs. Then, at the end of the essay, on a separate page titled "Biography", list the sources "1", "2", "3", etc... in decending order corresponding to your quotes. That way it's not plagarism, because you are listing your sources.

Assemble your document in one of those clear acetate report binders, and you're good to go. Btw, I'm an artist...thus the suggestion to use illustrations. Plus, imo it makes the job more of an adventure and less of a chore. Once again, good luck.

No its for university, and I'm not an arts student. I'm in engineering but I need to take this class to be able take another one.

I used to do that sort of thing in high school though, it sure did work too.
