Mindao solutions and some ideas
« on: January 26, 2002, 06:54:06 PM »
I do not know, may be it's a good idea to take Mindao out of rotation for at least 1 month? Or make it be there only every 2nd rotation?

Mindao is ok with me, but many people hates it so much that do not want to reset only not to get back to it.

I do not know, if its a good idea, just asking what do you think about it.

Fariz

Edit: Just thought, some maps are longer, some are resetted faster. Faster maps are not bad, they are just easier to reset. (like lake). Longer maps make it really annoying, like Mindao which was the beloved one became the hated by really lot of people.

I see 2 ways to balance it. First is: add to rotation 3 lakes, 2 isles, 1 mindao, 2 baltics. Distribute them in the queue.

Other I just think will be great. It's a vote. When map is reset, before terrain out every people online in the WINNING country get a right to vote for next terrain. It will be a great stimul to get resets. You shall put some limmitations, so no same map can be chosed more often than every 3rd reset or something like that. This vote may be a GREAT FUN for winners. and will balance loved and not loved maps. :)

I agree. Remember the 2 months after 1.08 was released? The only map that was ready for 1.08 was minanndo. We all got enough of it then :D

I understand Revvin, each player has maps it likes, or dislikes. But Uterus is reset in average of 2 days, while mindao take week. It shall be someway ballanced. I personally love Uterus due to vehicle fights. No other map provide them any enough. But If I do not log every day I quite possibly see no Uterus at all whole month -- it is resetted when I am out, so I have to wait the whole cycle to play it one day.

Agreed, Mindano is sooo old

Heck, all the maps are boring now, we've played them to death.

Do we have new maps on the way soon?

I vote for Mindano be in rotation once every 3rd rotation, its not even fun for "furballing" anymore.

It's getting really frustrating.

Heh, that's actually my favourite map!  I love the uterus map because it's got everything, apart from looks!  It's fantastic for GVs, Jabo strikes, furballing and buffing.

Anyway, yep, I hate the Mindanao map with a passion.  If I log on and see that it's the Mindy map then 8 times out of 10 I will log off.  Remember that before the current terrain rotation we used to have a different terrain every tour, for that entire tour length.  How it is at the moment is that the Mindanao map is lasting perhaps 2 or 3 weeks EVERY tour.  That's very unfair to those who dislike it.  It is a gorgeous looking terrain, don't get me wrong, but it is crap for gameplay; doesn't offer enough for GVs or bombers.

I would love to see the reintroduction of the modified Beta terrain and also the SFTERR terrain (one with A1 in the centre).  I can't see any harm in having them back in rotation with the current set and it would be nice to see a detour from the CV operations.

So yes, please change the rotation frequency for the Mindy map pleeeeeaaaase!  :)

There is a third option...

One week a map, every Wednesday morning, the map is changed.  During the rest of the week, if one side wins the war, the position of the country changes and the not the map.

Please explain why you folks hate mindanao?  I think it might be my favourit map.  I really like it.  It bugs me that I almost never get to play it because there seems to be this huge driver to reset it all the time.

Explain to me why Mindanao is bad.  What's the problem, and how could it be fixed?

Although Uterus would be low on my list of maps, I like it much better than NDIsles.  Uterus has lots of vehicle action, and it is much better balanced than NDIsles.  The fact that the country bottom right always seems to get ganged on NDIsles tells me it's unbalanced.  I'd like to see it fixed up rather than removed.

Now the one thing I would LOVE to see added into the rotation is the beta terrain!  I guess it would have to be modded for fleets somehow... but damn that was a fun map.  Gotta love canyon fights!

Leave it. Some like Mindanao, some like uterus, some like others. Thats the whole point in rotation isn't it?

I would just like more maps added. Would take more time to get back to that hellashish uterus map.

Mindanao is bad, in my opinion, for the following reasons.  And please understand that Mindanao aesthetically is my favorite map, I LOVE flying in it, just hate the gameplay at times.

1.  Too congested.  There just isnt enough room for 400 players on this map.  Since almost 1/2 of the Western countries fields will never be touched, that puts 400 players pretty much in the center circle.  Thats a lot of folks with not a lot of room.  All this presents is nasty furballs and incredulous numbers.  Now understand I think this is a BLAST IF it lasts for a couple days or so like the other maps.  The problem is mindanao is the hardest map for some reason to reset ... and well, we get stuck on it for ten days.

2.  No GV spawn points.  Ground Vehicles play NO role in Mindanao.  This gets old after a prolonged period of time as well.  Again, if this map were reset quickly (within a couple days) - this would not be a problem.

3.  We just get stuck on it too long.  I like the Isles terrain, love it in fact.  But it used to be one of my less favorites.  Why?  Because we were on it too long.  Now, because we get it at most for 2-4 days, I really look forward to it.  Same with the Lake.

Leph, I suspect the reason you like it and it has not grown to bother you is because you arent flying as much as you used to.  If you flew everyday, and had to get stuck in Mindanao for ten days, I bet your feelings might change.  I dunno though :)  It is an awfully beautiful terrain!

Nim

PS
I agree, lets change the rotation and get things staggered a bit.

Yeah, although I'm logging more time lately Nim. :)  Thanks for the explanation.

No GV's kinda bites for the tankers out there, point taken.

Hmmm, see I like Mindanao for it's beauty and precicely for the massive furballs!  I can either grab a Hellcat and dive in, or I can work the outer areas for smaller fights with the Jug.  Big fun. :)

if ya look at the map theres only 3 bases at each front facing each other. I f the ne country takes a1 a5 and a2 then the nw and southern countries dont fight, they at cut off from each other.

The map visually is the best one but gameplay is  hampered by overcrowding.

The nw country never gets reset.

It will be here the next week or so. If you like it great but I am bored with it.

The ute map is the best one we have ion rotation. Gv wars but still small fronts.

I quite like this map, hehe, for exactly the reasons Nimitz mentions :).

1) No vehicles: The other maps have way to robust a spawn layout for vehicles imo. This one is nice because if you're going to take a base, you have to fly for it. I like that.

2) Close proximity: I seem to be of the opposite opinion to a lot of folks here. I think the AH maps are way too big. This one is nice because there are some good areas that concentrate many bases in a sector or two. I like that...faster fights, less alt required, more fun imo.

3) I really like the rolling terrain, and the varying base alts. That makes for some fun furballing.

Of all the maps I defintely like this the most. Heck, I'd be happy to see it as the only map.

Agree !
Either reset it manually after one week or take it outta rotation, so it comes less frequently like Fariz said.
