Vehicles and hills...
« on: January 27, 2002, 03:28:56 PM »
Now I'm no expert on vehicles or specifically halftracks, but I had an M-3  yesterday and tried to climb the road up to a field.  Admittedly it was a steep hill, but nothing my car (and believe me my car sucks) could not handle.  Naturally the M-3 floundered and I was gunned down mercilessly by a spit.  I like to GV once in a while, but it would be better if we could climb hills and such.  IMO it would make the ground aspect of the game better if we could go more places.

Another thought...I wonder if it would be better to use throttle for vehicles instead of pushing forward on the stick.  A pull on the stick would still be brakes... that way we could have more control while gunning.

HT and staff....any thoughts or comments?  Thanks for listening.

Dunno, I think gv's should be allowed their top speed at any terrain inclination.

Heck, it takes long enuf to get anywhere and planes bomb or pzrs kill u with 2 or 3 hits anyway.

letting the gv's run around at their meager 45mph max (m3/m16) even up the steepest hill is no downer for gameplay anyway.

Doesn't need to be top speed, but they should be able to climb hills in low gear.

Try backing up the hill...seems to me I've done that in this situation.

The main problem is the choosen spawn points. What about having one spawn point just near the rail roads, and using that railroad as a normal road allowing faster speeds even at hills. Well, if you have bad luck, you will find a closing train whose ack will make a good job with your GV ;) Or you can setup safe firing possitions for panzers trying to stop supply trains.

I have noticed that by backing my M8 up a hill I get there twice as fast.

Thats right, turn the damned thing around, put it in reverse and AWAY you go!

Go figure ;)

what we need are realistic winding roads that go up the hill :)

Thanx for the suggestions.  I knew about the reverse thing, but it didn't work on this hill in the M-3.  Point is I don't want to "game" it.  I just want to drive up the road...and engage the enemy.  Just wondering if its a bug, or if the M-3 (and others) in fact could not get up those hills.

GVs and hills just don't mix.

I think is is really a pain when you are on a hill and start sliding off. What do we have here anyway? Greesed tracks and ice covered hills?

Also, you ever see a truck convoy go up a hill? They haul ass, same speed up the hill, down the hill, on level ground. I think AI don't have to be mindfull of the terrain.

If the AI trucks can climb hills, the GVs should be able to also.

I was in the M8 offline, trying to kill a truck convoy. They got to the hill and left me stuck at the bottom.
