sound level adjustment
« on: January 28, 2002, 04:22:41 AM »
Hello, I want to start by saying HTC has a great game here.

When I fly, my gun sound is too loud compared to my engine sound. I have adjusted the individual sounds in the Sounds menu to a level that I enjoy. The only catch is, I have to do this every flight, every up. I dont acctually have to go and change what each sound percentage is, I just have to bring up the sound menu and press "ok". Then, presto, my sounds levels are where I want them. Although It has become habbit to do this every flight, it gets old. I'm wondering if there is some configuration file I can delete? It seems that my configurations are not being saved from flight to flight. Other than this, all is wonderful. Help please...

Thanks,
kappa

Hmmm, check your Aces High directory and the Settings directory beneath that and be sure none of the files are set as Read Only.

The Setting folder itself is not marked 'Read Only'. The files within the Settings folder are all marked as 'Archive'. None are marked 'Read Only'. I did, however, find a file 'sounds.cfg' that I think I will move or rename to see if it gets resaved. Anything else?

Sorry guys... I'm not sure what else to try.  I'm stumped.

Make sure you have up to date sound drivers.  Also see if you can get the DX Control Panel applet that will let you reduce your sound debut level to 0 (if it is set higher) and try reducing sound acceleration one notch.

That's about all I can think of.  :(

Perhaps, I have not stated my exact problem clear enough? I dont think this is a Hardware problem and yes I have the newest sound drivers installed. All my sounds function properly, its the 'sound levels' in the game that I am trying to adjust.

In the 'Settings' folder, I deleted the file 'sounds.cfg'. Upon restarting the game, the file was resaved and all sound levels defaulted to 80%. However, nothing has changed. I had to readjust my primary gun sound level back to a level that I find comfortable. Still, with every flight every up, I have to goto settings, sounds, and click 'OK' for these particular sound levels to be in effect. I dont actually have to change the sound level percentages, they remain as I have previously set them, I just have to click 'OK' for them to take effect. Is there anyone else that I might refer this problem to? Help please.....

Thanks,
kappa

Should I post this on the Report Bugs link? It appears that I am not the only one with this problem. In fact, I would bet that everyone has this problem and most do not know it...
