My Complaints about AH Radar Map

Ok, hit me with anything you want.

This poor item needs some thought to it.

You can't read crap on this thing. It’s all too big of text or objects on an entirely too small window. Everything just crunches together and when you zoom in they all over lap and you can't read it anyways. It's a real chore to use.

Frankly I think it sucks. The window and map pic needs to be at least 2x the size to accommodate the actual sizes being used in text and objects.

Come on folks it looks like a whole 20 minutes was spent designing this.

It's cumbersome.
The use of it sharply interrupts emersion.

Can't you guys take a little more time to resize it and it's information so it's not a jumbled mess??

Or is it only my pc that makes it look like toejam?

Simple solution:

Map text and icons need to be user scalable (maybe make them TTF fonts?).  I play at 1600x1200 and its a strain to read the text without sticking my nose on my monitor.

Not really, the text grows with the sizing of the map, if it didn't it would spread out and be more readable. Unless I am missing some magical setting, zooming just makes the problem larger.

Not that I know anything, but here's my idea.

1. double the size of the map window. At it's smallest size, if you don't move it it's in your way anyway why would it matter to double the default size? in your way is in your way, might as well utilize it's space.

2. lock the text\objects size to say 10pts or according to user res., as in 800X600,  12pts if running like 1024X768.

3. let the map expand while retaining original text\object size.

I mean, I don't mean to squeak, but this is probably the only item used more then the stick and trigger. It really deserves attention to it's workings and easy view ability. The easier it is to read, the less time you need to spend looking at it.

If you have to spend more then a few seconds looking at it, it's sort of a buzz\emersion kill, especialy if you can't understand it after 5-10 seconds.

I'm sure they'll just blow logic off just because it's me saying it

I think what Indian was trying to say there was that you can make the clipboard itself however big you want it.  Look on the bottom right corner and see the four little squares there.  One has a + in it and another has a - in it.  The + makes the clipboard itself larger and the - makes it smaller.  You can still zoom the map itself in and out.

First sentence in my last reply

"Not really, the text grows with the sizing of the map,"

This means I AM talking about the zooming, (- +) maybe I should post a screen shot of what I am talking about.

I thought I was being pretty clear.

Animal,

I think we're discussing two different features.   First, the + and - on the clipboard, governs the physical size of the clipboard on your screen, and doesn't help remove the clutter.

The real "zoom" feature is the Insert/Delete key.  This allows you to change the scale of the map, e.g., you can zoom in and show only 1 sector of the map on the full clipboard.  That completely removes the symbol congestion which you're complaining about.

I usually set it to show only my current sector and a little bit of the adjacent sectors, myself.

Cheers.

Judging from this pic, it looks to me like you need to first make the *clipboard itself* a bit bigger with the "+/-" on the lower corner, and then zoom in on the map a bit with the / keys.

I found the text on the map just about unreadable too until I made the clipboard itself bigger. Is much more better now.

Hell if you want you can make the clipboard just about as big as the whole screen if you wanted. It'd be nice if it was turned 90 degrees to fit the screen better tho.

thanks ;-)

that's exactly what I am looking for.

BIG  HELP!
Also a big help to read the manual.

BTW Drano is right, it needs to turn so it fits the screen, proportionally. That or make it resizeable with the mouse. The word custom comes to mind.

I better shadup before the landslide catches up to me.
