Hi, I used to play warbirds a couple of years ago. A career change made me put away my joysticks and pick up my books. I am keen to get back into the swing and have a harware question.

I am now running XP on a AMD 1.2G machine. I still have packed away my non USB CH F16 fighterstick, my pro throttle and pro pedals.

I have read the CH wesite and emailed CH tech support with no reply. Can I use these stick/pedals and throttle in XP? Can I program them with speedkeys in XP?

No, SpeedKeys will not work in Windows XP. The Joystick and programmed buttons (once programmed) will work in XP.

As long as the stick is already programmed your ok, but if you need to program it, you will need to do it on a Windows 9X computer. Duel booting your system is probably the easiest way or just move it to a Windows 9X computer.

Is there software to allow me to dual boot this system? I have to physical hard drives. One 40Gig and one 60Gig. I use the second for data. Would it be possible to put a win 98 directory on there and dual boot from there purely for programming my stick/ throttle combo?

I seem to remember a program called bootmaster or something which did this for you. I am running XP Pro at the moment.

Hi evey, nice to see that I'm not alone with my problem, hehe.
I need to install win98 in to win2k system, but I haven't found the solution yet. I have nonworking CH-Throttle too...

I haven't done any research, but the program doesn't run even if you run it in one of the compatibility modes? I've yet to find anything that refuses to run under XP.

Right click on the shortcut, choose "properties" and then "compatibility". Still no joy?

No, it won't work. XP refuses to allow keyboard emulations (CH programming done this way) hence CH won't work with XP no matter what and there's no workaround (do a search in this forum - someone got an e-mail from CH support to that effect).

Dual boot is a piece of cake but you need to install Win98 first (make sure it's Win98SE!!!). After Win98 is up and running - slot in Win2000 or XP and it will ask you whether you want to upgrade the existing system or install a separate version.

After install on each boot you'll get a selector which system you want to boot. I have 98Lite/XP Pro running like a charm. 98Lite incidentally takes up very little space. The pain of course is that you have to d/load 2 loads of drivers when you upgrade yours for, say, video. And you have to re-boot when you feel like flying:). I have nothing under 98 but flying stuff. The rest of work/games happens under XP.

Yes still a Para.

I might have to take my stick and throttle to my mums house, program a keyset there and bring it home. I understand that the drive must be FAT32 (?) for 98.

Deep joy, this seems most unlike CH to leave their customers high and dry.

Anyone using a pro throttle, f16 fighter stick and pro pedals with aces high?

I need to work out a template or two.

definitely no work i tryed all way on Xp and even latest mother boards don not alow keyboard emulation ,strange when instaling old DOS it works but no axe input

so i broke up all my CH gear ! emptied all wires poters and bought 2 MS precision pro 2 < btw also broke them >

and build my first home made USB HID compliant pro ruder and PRo trotle well it costed my muchh more like to buy USB CH gear but i got it after 3 days of hard work < damn butons are hard to solder> in EU it take eternity to shop from USA

latest job will try adapt Force FX mechanics to MSFF2 electronic

if HTC will fix trim forces modeling for AH:D

when all done and replaced some plastic with aluminium parts will post some pics of the home made USB dual trotle FF gear

Just because windows XP is "en vogue" doesn't mean you have to use it as your operating system. XP does have some advantages, but it is new and still has some bugs to work out. IMHO "If it ain't broke, don't fixit" applies here. Windows 98SE works very well for me......and will continue to do so in the future.
