I am not sure what you mean,
Are you saying that if I have a small LAN with say 4 clients a hub and a broadband router that each client will only recieve 1/4 the available bandwidth from the router? And by "speed test on my CPU" do you mean a test to get my RcvWindow value? (download speed)

DDT, for two PCs connecting to the Internet a switch would only be faster than a hub if the switch had memory to buffer simultaneous transmissions to/from the PCs.  Not all switches do and even at that the performance increase would be negligible.

Consider also that even a slow hub (10 mbps) is 3-5 times faster than the bottleneck of your dsl/cable modem connection. If you have a 100mbps hub/switch then you will see much faster file transfers between the PCs but not the Internet.

And yes, I've tested this.
