I have an IBM 40gig Deskstar DTLA-305040 that is doing the "click of death"™.  anybody got any advice, or know of a good, cheap (<$500 total) data recovery service?

Dont you just hate when IBM drived just decide they dont want to work anymore.
Such great drivers otherwise.

Is that a 60GXP or 75GXP?

As for your data recovery -- if your hard drive is STILL working (the IBMs take a while doing the click 'o death until they die) you may have time to install another hard disk and move all your data there.

It sounds odd, but try putting it on a radiator for a little while.

As for data recovery bureaux, they're expensive.
