OK, here is a dweeb question for whoever.

The rockets on LW planes seem to explode alla ack at about 1200 yards. Are these meant to be air to air weapons?

I have tested these quite a bit in ah....

they are and were a2a. They were used to break up buff formations in rl.

In ah tho the nme or guy your firing at never sees the rockets unless you hit him. So to use them to break up a tight formation (making them break to avoid umm) is impossible.

at 300 mph coming in h2h fire them around 1500 well above the buff (2k or so) because they drop quite abit.

a 6 o'clock rocket attack is pointless you have to be well in gunrange to to fire.

I have tried and tried and have only ever killed 1 buff with them (even when practicing).

They are of little use against ground targets unless you fire at d1200 (hard to guage) but I have finished off vhs when gvs were rollin out by using the gv icon to guage range.

They had models with air burst fuzes and models for ground attack. AH only models the airburst type.

My only kill with LW rockets was against a tank.  I've would carry them more often if there where more tight bomber formations, but most buff attacks have loose formations and the odds of hitting one buff are slim.

yeah guys but what about when 1.09 buffs arrive? :D DROOL!

wr21s will become a much more viable weapon when we can fire at a formation of buffs.

hehehe Hazed :D

Wotan, they weren't used to make the buff formations brake to avoid. The US crews had a nice dispeline (spelling?) and often stayed as close as possible if I am not miistaking.

The rockets were fireing in the bulge of the bomber, exploding among them, 21cm rockets with a heavy explosive warhead make a nice explosion and even though not very many buffs died right away to them, mane were dammaged, engines killed, wings and fuselage, crew etc hit badly, the buffs had no option but to fall back and then they were very easy meat for the fighters.

It was quite often so that, the heavy fighters (Me410, 110 etc) fired away a number of rockets, Me410 could carry 4 and some versions more in the bomb bay. They fired them into the formation, when the buffs got dammaged (quite many got dammaged from the rocket attack) they fell out of the formation where both light fighters and heavy fighters fell upon them.
