Whats the thing with CTDs ??
« on: February 01, 2002, 12:38:52 PM »
There was a time when I didn't know whatta heck CTD is but lately I've lost almost all perk-planes when I find myself watching desktop. Sometimes I can play hours without any problems and sometimes game crashes every 10-15 mins, sometimes in couple min.

Could it be related to connections to MA ?

In my experience, CTD's are almost never caused by connection issues.  CTD's are usually associated with some sort of problem on your computer.  The problems range from overheating, to the wrong version of video drivers, to resource conflicts, to generally messed up versions of Windows that are due for a reload.

If you guys want solutions, please detail the problem along with all your system details including driver versions here.  Myself and others can likely give you a list of things to try that may solve your problem.

Things to try first.

1.  Make sure your machine isn't getting too hot.  If your CPU or video card are overclocked at all, turn them down to stock speed.  Take the side off your case and point a big desktop fan at it and see if that helps.

2.  If you have a VIA chipset mainboard, make sure you have up to date VIA 4-in-1 drivers for it.

3.  Make sure you are using a WHQL certified version of nVidia's Detonator drivers.  The latest WHQL versions are 21.81 I think?  You can get them from the links below in my sig.  If you have a TnT or early GeForce, try the older model 7.58 or 7.78's.

4.  Check that you don't have any resource conflicts and that your sound drivers are up to date.

There are more possibilities, but generally one of those 4 turn out to be the issue.
