Spit MK IX
« on: February 02, 2002, 09:06:09 AM »
I think the Spit IX was made slower than it should be,for gameplay, cause it's turns so well compared to other fighters.I know the Mustang and the P47 are faster than the Spit by a considerable margin, and even the P38 is-but all that refers to maximum speed.
Considering the weights involved-Spits are much lighter than Mustangs and P47s,P38 and German Fighters, and that Spits climb really well-I don't think the game simulates the relative performances of these aircraft, and in that I am talking about acceleration...
And-why the heck can't we have later versiosn of the Spitfire-even as perk planes???

No westy... I believe if you were to read his some of his other posts in this blitz you would see that he really is every bit as dumb as he seems to be.

Mike, the Spit 9 is about the best accelerator in the game, from CO E it outdives P47 (not that I think P47 dives as good as it should). It's fast and bleeds E slow, can keep up with many things at the deck, specially while spraying Hispano from 800 yards to make the enemy dodge and blow E.

Mike,

Have you considered comparing wing loading and lift to drag ratios? I believe further study may convince you to reassess some of your conclusions.

Mike in AH they modeled the wimpiest possible version of the Mk. IX.  It's one of the slowest at low levels but pretty fast at high levels.  The speeds in the game come out quite close to tests of the real thing.

May be slow, but accelerates like hell and it's the best high alt fighter in the game :)

My point Mando, not very fast in level flight at the deck, but dives like hell, accelerates about best in the game and never looses E, not even in turns, like many other planes.....

I fly Spit IX all the time and about the only plane that I have flown that seems to accelerate faster is the La7.   Now if we were talking about the Spit V then I would say it does not accelerate quite as fast but it still holds it's own.  In fact I rarely worry about loosing too much speen in the IX because I know I can point the nose a tad down and give it full throttle and be back to a nice speed in no time.  :D
