Anyone out there got an opinion on Joysticks?  I was eyeing up a Saitek X45 , but it doesn't have FF. Do you guys think FF is essential or just a gimmick in AH?  Currently on an old gameport MS Sidewinder FF. Its fine but I could go to USB now and release the gameport for my wheel + an electrical powerpoint currently occupied by the Sidewinder power supply.

I tried MS FFB2, less than a week in AH - took it back to store

can't beat X45 for the money ..

I love CH Products,especially the F-16 Combat Stick, Pro Throttle and pedals.  I've never heard anyone complain about CH UNLESS they were running windows XP, using Speedkeys to program the throttle and joystick.  All in all, after flying combat Sims for a long time.....CH has worked for me very very well in all aspects.

What was wrong with it? I just got one to use with my laptop... (X45s etc is not an option on the move)

I tried force feedback a few years ago in AirWarruir.  It was nice, but didn’t do a thing for me regarding realism.  I can’t give you a response as far as AH is concerned.  Your best bet is to get a force feedback and give it a try in AH and see if it lights your fire.  Be sure you can take it back to the store if you find it isn’t your cup of tea.

I think the new Cougar, when it comes out, won’t be force feedback.  I have a feeling it will prolly be “the stick”.  I would save my money for this stick before I would spend it on a force feedback stick.

I found it didnt add anything to the game, had it going with my CH pro peds and X45 throttle

thought I'd get more things a shakin, like when ur wheels touched down landing, gear going up and down, flaps deployment, etc - the loss of the other hat and buttons and the less than real effects + added difficultly it added to the game just detracted from the overall experience.. yours maybe different.

Uh-oh - thanks... As I said - it will be used with my laptop so no pedals there anyway. I got it rather cheap and hope it won't be much worse than Precision Pro I'm using at the moment :)

While Eagler's veiw matches mine as the loss of the extra hat etc is a pain . I love the ff2's center compared to the x36 that it replaced . Plus while not "shaking" near as much as in CFS 1 and 2 , the "buffet" effect saved my bellybutton the other night :D

I got to 540 mph and the stick started to buzz some , while I usually watch the speedo I wasn't this time :o , so quickly I back off a bit and didn't compress .

I did get my first 5 kill sortie with this stick the first day I used it (Sat), and then again on Sunday . The center control is so much better than my x 36 was .

Now I don't use the x45 , so this is mute , isn't it ? BUT , I wouldn't use the FFB2 without a throttle . Also wish they would have a option to "lock" the twist on the stick .

Eagler , I miss the other hat also . But my shooting is so much better now .

I tried to get my old Ch Pro analog throttle to work on this pc but have mb , keyboard pass through problems :mad:  I liked that throttle the best , was compfy to rest your hand on , hehe .

About the FFB2 (got one 2 months ago) the worst thing is the profile issue: I tried everyway to set the centering force to off, but anytime u change a setting it creates a new profile (didn't find the way to change default settings) and AH doesnt accept profiles.
I had a FFB pro before and it was great w/o centering force: u could feel the trimming force to increase as soon as plane grabbed speed or to decrese as soon as u was closing to stall...it was more realistic, for sure.
I think HT could add a force setting for the centering spring in the FFB control panel.
