AH with router/firewall
« on: February 05, 2002, 12:07:01 PM »
Looks like I may be getting Linksys router from work, so that I can use may work laptop on my home internet connection.   What do I need to do in order to still be able to play AH from behind this router?   ( I believe it has a built in firewall).

Thanks!

I think if you designate your laptop's IP as the "DMZ Host" it will allow AH to run over UDP as desired.

If there are some other firewall capabilities, you might have to map ports between HTC's servers and your gaming box.  If you do, the ports you need to use are 2,000 to 3,500 or so inclusive.  The main is tpl.hitechcreations.com, and I'm not sure about the CT.

AH and AHvoice do not require any ports to be opened. Nor do you have to enable a DMZ host for it.

If you want to host a H2H game, or a RW session you'll have to open the ports for them. I forget what they are offhand, but you shoudl be able to find them with a search.

Does it not kick back to TCP that way Starbird?  I don't have one of those boxes, so I'm just guessing.  Definately try to run it first, and if something breaks, then the above options may help you out.

No, the only time it does kick into tcp is when I go into the CT, or if for some reason my connection is lagged.

Most of the time its fine.
