Carrier Aircraft Arresting Hooks
« on: February 10, 2002, 12:55:43 PM »
Many of us are hoping that v.1.09 will not be the latest in a long string of releases which fail to include visible aircraft tail hooks for carrier based airplanes.

When you demonstrate Aces High to any flat top veteran, they always ask, "Where is the hook?"

It's embarrassing to admit they were never included.

Heres something kind of neat- I have seen an F15 (not an F14) with an arrestor hook installed on it.  I didnt have a chance to ask the pilot or any of the ground crew why it had an arrestor hook.  But if the airforce can have visible hooks, hopefully aces high can too!

You'll see hooks on F-16's too. They use them on short fields.

Field arresting gear. Not of sufficient strength for carrier duty. Also used in emergency situations as in no hydraulics or to prevent fire crews from having to race the aircraft down the runway.

i don't know why you people keep going on and on about a tail hook you can't see from the cockpit anyway, why don't you ask for somthing usefull like  glide slope indicator lights on the CV so you can use that tail hook you can't see.

end rant , resume normal comunication

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the C-130 the largest aircraft to ever land on a carrier?

And many of us are also hoping that v.1.09 will not be the latest in a long string of releases which fail to include visible leading edge slats and trailing edge flaps for 109s.

To think only Rowan's BoB and 1C's IL-2 has done the visual representation so far in the history of flight sim games... hurts the pride :p

Brakes locked, revved engines to max RPM, set catapult to maximum, off she went! (It was not loaded either! )

Coolest thing I ever saw was a night take off by a C-130 with RATO.  :)

I'd like to see hooks on our airplanes.  I'd like to see cowl flaps and slats on the 109s and Lavochkins, etc.  But you have to remember that HTC are working with 7 people instead of 20 people like Il-2, and they have some higher priorities than eye candy.
