From wild bill.
3) We have reached agreement with the developers of our graphic engine so we will have source code and be able to continue to improve the product.

Not that I care much, but interesting.

I remember they were pimping that graphics engine (and showing us their WB3 "demo") at the WB Con, Summer 1999.  The engine is 2-1/2 years old and not getting younger.  Whoopdeefreakindoo.  :)

Uh, isn't AH using a 1998 engine(based on a 1995 one)?

but Gadfly, HTC can update their engine anytime they want or the hardware permits them to do something they want to.

iEN, OTOH, is using a 3rd party engine. All they are doing is linking their game software to this graphics engine, right? They don't do any actual maintenence on the engine do they?

So basically, they'll be up a creek without a paddle in a few years unless they buy that engine and get the people who built it to work for them.... and based on the past 2 years annual earnings, we know that just ain't gonna happen.

I didn't know we were talking about AH, but yeah I guess the AH engine would date from 98 or 99.  However, I'm pretty sure that if HTC were going to buy a new engine today they wouldn't buy one from mid 1999.

I believe HT built the AH graphix engine from scratch in 99, may have been 98.  Look how far HTC has come in less than 3 years and there's another ground breaking release just around the corners.   After that 3 years WB3 is still in beta while AH is poised to add AVI making cababilities to the film viewer :)  What a freakin great training tool that will be :)

Good luck with all the posturing IEN, just remember HTC is busy planning and releasing new inovations to our genre :D  1 buff driver controlling a formation of bombers :) that's something we've needed for a long time, now we'll have true bomber boxes to kill :D

Salute HTC!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are some of the new features they are adding.

-CV's
-Manable ack positions
-Ships, and again gunner positions
-Stearable CV / ships (arena setting)
-Naval battles AI / player
-New terrain (tunisia) and textures / ground objects
-More AC (not sure the final list yet)
-Torpeo's
-Many new small features people asked for, like zoomable field maps, icons, etc
-1 to 1 bullet modeling (if load tests work)
-Many Fm changes / fixes
-Jumping into AI gunner positions on the fly
-PDC formed and have put out there first works

heheh.  Look familiar.

Was thinking the same thing.  In AH we call that a "features" list.:D

Also... most of this they've been promissing for some time.  I'm curious as to how much of it they deliver on.

"based on a 1995 one"

No. I've been told that AH was built from the ground up. From scratch. It is not based on the WB 2.x GFX engine at all and imo it's obvious.

(edited: er, basically what Udie said...)

Hey, I am not busting anyone chops, just keeping Funked honest.  I don't really play either game at this point, I just enjoy ya'lls company.

But,  I think it would be a stretch to say that AH is not based on the WB engine, improved though it may be.

From what I remember WB 2.xx was based on the same graphix engine as F18 from graphics simulations inc.  (not sure about the company name)  They liscenced the engine from them after the Doh!mark split.

When HT started AH he started from a blank screen :) at least that's the way he put it at the con hehe.  Now I'd be willing to bet that the 2 share some of the same code say that HT did both of them.  But the graphics engine, I don't believe, is part of the code that is similar.  I know I'm splitting hairs :D
