Whining 101

There have been some concerns lately about the radio communication within the game. The problem, as I see it, is not that players are whining and talking trash, it is that they are doing it so poorly.

It’s lame. It’s weak. It’s tired. You can hear better smack talk on a pre-school hopscotch court.

So, I would like to offer some suggestions:

1. Avoid clichés. “Ack-runner”, “HO dweeb”, “strato-buff”, “Spit-dweeb”, faulty flight or damage model, etc. We’ve heard these thousands of times before. Like the constantly squalling car alarm, they serve no useful purpose and only add to the irritating background noise.

2. Just say hell no to profanity. While everyone appreciates innovative and imaginative cursing, the stock obscenities (and their alternate spellings) are monotonous and boring. Resorting to such tactics suggests the player has less intelligence than a blonde clam with Down’s syndrome.

3. Make your point and move on. Quality time quantity equals a constant. Otherwise worthy whines quickly become squelch fodder when they are repeated redundantly over and over, in a redundant fashion.

4. Use humor. This is supposed to be fun. A word of caution is in order, however. Certain individuals inherently lack a sense of humor. These persons should best avoid trying to be funny, for fear that they injure themselves. (Hint: if the name of your plane contains the digits 0, 1, and 9, in any order, you are at risk).

5. Think before you type. My dog puts more consideration into a bowel movement than many players put into their radio communications. Are your particular thoughts really worth sharing with several hundred other players? If not, then maybe they are best left unsaid.

If we follow these simple guidelines, we can improve the quality and entertainment value of our trash talking and whining, and increase everyone’s enjoyment.

Fell free to offer other useful tips.

Myelo, words to live by. How did you ever get into the FDB's with such a level-headed brain? Man, the recruiting officer must've been asleep at the wheel when you applied. ;)
