Read before complaining about AH
« on: February 12, 2002, 10:13:48 PM »
Here's a list of things to think about before going ahead and complaining.

W = Whine
A = Answer

(obvious I know)

W. This plane is missing a load-out.
A. It's a game, the developers are only human. instead of complaining, how about praising them for all the hard work. Asking nicely is probably well accepted but complaining about it over and over doesnt win you any friends.

W. Why hasn't X bug been fixed yet?
A. See above answer.

W. I hate the stupid strat ppl, they ruin all my furballing.
A. The game isn't all about furballs. It wasn't written specifically for you so new non-furball features are perfectly acceptable. Everyone has different likes and dislikes and they want to play too. Play your way and dont worry about everyone else.

W. The furballs are stupid. People just up, die, up, die, up die over and over. Whats the point? I need them at X to help take/defend a base.
A. Pretty much the same as previous. The people furballing pay their money and they want to furball. Thats what they like. Find some like-minded people to launch an attack. Maybe the furballers will come on over and supply some CAP.

W. Why isn't X plane included? Its an outrage HT haven't added it. Y wanted Z plane and it got added!
A. Everyone likes different planes. Heck, if I had my way there'd be a Commonwealth Boomerang in AH. I know very well thats not going to happen though. HT adds planes as we go along and getting all toejamty when 'your' plane isn't added won't make things better. Enjoy the planes we have. There are plenty. Odds are yours will be added some day in the future. HT can't please all people all the time.

W. There are too many newbies flying around. We need a super secret veterans club that no-one can get into unless they know the secret handshake and daily password.
A. Without all the new people HT wouldn't have the capital to make such a wonderful game. All the new things we ask for wouldn't be possible. Before starting on a good ol days rant, remember that in 1 years time, this will be the good ol days. People will be saying, i remember the good ol days in 2002 etc etc. Also, AH will never end up filled with kiddies. It's too much trouble for them to learn all about ACM et al. If you want to experience true online gaming hell, go check out ultima online or counter-strike. Plus they wont want to pay when other games are free.

ok, i could think up more but i better go back to work. If you like my list say so. If you think its a whine in itself, say so. If you have any more items, please add them to the thread.

Cheers

I do believe the threads you appear to be referencing are titled "What's broken in AH" and my "While we're on the subject", both asking people to comment on what they thought would improve the game.  If there's any place to "whine" about the game that would be it.  All of this "I'll tell you what your opinion can be and how to express it" kind of annoys me.  Who are you to tell anyone what opinions they should have and which ones are "whines"  With cencorship like that the game will most assuredly become stale.  I would imagine HT wants as much feedback as possible, negative or not.  It's just a facet of human nature that we're more motivated to go out of our way to express opinions about what we think is broken and tend to remain silent when everything works as we would expect.  People "whining" about whats broken is of far more use to producers who are committed to continual improvment of the game than are those who simply say "nice game, dont ever change it" and dont bother to spend the time thinking or posting about ways to help the producers take a good game and make it better.

Is this a whine?

"It sure would be nice to be able to move the readio buffer and the clipboard to a second monitor."

If this isn't whiney enough could you please show me how to add that pinch of whine ingredent that would bring out the above statement's whine flavor.(I already know about "bribe" link thingie, but am saving for a GeForce4 4600)

No Crash that's not what i meant. I meant when people complain about something over and over. I think it's a line that's a bit hard to define. Sure, reporting bugs is VERY impotant, its seeing the same bug being brought up week after week thats wrong. Go back and read your thread, you'll find i posted there about an hour ago, agreeing with your ideas.

A suggestion is great too, HT seem to thrive on the feedback from customers. When I saw your wish for clipboard on seperate monitor 1776, I though 'hey thats a great idea'. I'd sure as hell never thought of it.

The purpose of my list wasnt to 'tell people how to think or what to post' it just a little way to make people think BEFORE they post the same old crap everyone else has already posted. Lotsa fresh ideas is what HT would want to see, bug reports are never welcome but developers would rather fix them now or later. I know, im a developer. Sorry if you got the wrong impression from what i've posted. My intention was not to offend.

Your above post shows just how ineffective my whine is:(

That readio buffer needs to be on the second monitor too!!!  You only mentioned the clipboard in your post,.  I guess I won't make a good whiner:(

I will keep it up though as eventually I want to be ranked with the cream of the crop whiners:)  And boy do I have alota work to do to just get on the first rung of the ladder:)

Hey OZ try this

WHINE MODE ON.

HT that @#$#%^& radio buffer is always in the way how long is it going to take to get duel monitor support like the other games!!!!!

Oh and HT how about moving that ugly ^$%&*($ clipboard out of the way also. And while your at it sence you obviously have way to mugh time on your hands giver us duel monitor support also.

WHINE MODE OFF.

OZ what I do is turn the alhpa setting all the way down and I dont see the radio buffer much now. And I minimize the clipboard alot.

Good to see you on the board also.

indian, thanks for your thoughts on how to produce a whine, appreciated:)

Currently I have the radio system(RW or AH voice or Teamsound)on the second monitor.  It's great to glance at the second monitor to see who is on the radio and in the case of TeamSound who is talking.  Having the readio buffer and clipboard off the main monitor would add to the enjoyment of the dogfight and make it easier to basicly see your opponet.

I like the idea of being able to see the clipboard out of the corner of my eye while fighting.  As it is now you have to bring it up and guess what,  you can easily lose contact with the nme and prolly lose the fight:(

I believe that the use of the clipboard is a part of SA in AH.  There is nothing wrong with using a tool HTC has provided to your advantage.

What do you think of the idea for AHvoice to have some way to indicate who is transmitting?  TeamSound has a radio button next to the handle that turns green when that person transmits.

A better idea is that when you press the transmit key in AHvoice your handle is  automaticlly announced like the check 6 call we have:)  That way all ppl on the chnl know who is speaking.  Would be a great feature if you could also be able to select or deselect this feature.

I don't consider any request a whine when placed in a reasonable, respectful format, no matter how many times it has been placed before. That said, the gist of your original post is extremely valid (IMHO, of course). :)

Nothing personal..I find your posts amiable and well considered, but I'm just a little tired of people attempting to influence what and how other people express their opinions.  IMO your post is nothing but a whine, but instead of whining about the game your whining about your fellow players.  Please dont be offended, you have every right to say it, but in doing so your attempting to portray yourself as some how above the fray, as it were, when in fact your simply another part of it.
