Last I heard from Sale and Pelletier, they said that they were satisfied... this before the IOC changed the awards. The outrage came from the fans and the media. Figure skating judges have always been suspected of foul play and favortism. It's the nature of the game.
Of COURSE they were satisfied. The publicity surrounding this whole affair translates into MILLIONS of dollars in endorsements for them. Getting "jobbed" out of their gold medal, and the ensuing turmoil and publicity that has followed, makes the Canadian pair the most marketable of all the Winter Olympians. Stay tuned to your TV sets- you will soon see Sale and Pelletier pushing everything from chewing gum to sanitary napkins.
I have to agree with Boroda, at least to a point. Roy Jones is now asking for a gold medal over HIS hose job in Seoul. At what point does this all end?? 20 years after the fact, at least as far as Roy Jones is concerned? Hey, all judge's decisions should be final.
Of course I'm also sympathetic (look up "sympathy" in the dictionary- it's right between "shit" and "syphlis") to the Canadian people, who havn't had a hell of a lot to cheer about this Olympics. Their hockey team sucks, so if they have a "special" ceremony for the Cannucks and play that most operetic of national anthems, "O Canada," well, I have no doubt there won't be a dry eye in Canada as their anthem is played and their flag is raised and a whole bunch of fur trappers raise their bottles of Molson in salute. It's too bad that Sale and Pelletier don't have the class to refuse this most condenscinding of gold medals. Baroda is righrt- Canadians are classless.
Why don't we turn this into the Special Olympics and give EVERYBODY a gold medal?
