RC Pilots/Model Builders, Show Your Stuff

I've been getting re-interested in RC planes.  We just moved and are very close to the local RC model aircraft club.  I have stopped by the past couple of Saturdays to watch.  This closet RC modeler is tempted to get back into it.

Anyway, post pics of what you fly or have built/are building.

I would if I had a scanner Eskimo...It's the most fun you can have on a sunny weekend!...Great for wifey too if she likes to read books in the shade....I got 2 f4u's(60 size),A float plane Beaver(60) and a glider...I used to have a P47,F4F(hand launch,no gear),Super Chipmunk,and several scratch built gliders and trainers(one with a bomb hatch to drop eggs on passing cars..Yeah,I started young.....And once you learn the ropes,it's a real pleasure to teach someone else to fly.(with their plane of course!).

I have stop build RC-Planes... In last 3 years I loose 2 1.000 US$ planes cause tech. failure....

One 500US$ Plane to pilot error

And one 250US$ "Foxhound" Plane in midair crash. But was spectacular to watch ....

Uhm...also the angry of the other pilot was spectacular

In Moment I be in Cellar and beginn to cut-out the ribs and spant for my new project:

USS North-Carolina (BB-55)  Semi-Scale 1:76.....

Shit, when it finished in approx 2 years I need a bigger car....

I spent my youth watching and flying RC models with my father, who founded the local club here.

datter....WOW:eek:  That 109 looks awesome....

Dad never had any WW2 models....he flew bi-planes for the most part....it made building them much harder as he built every plane from scratch.....endless evenings cutting wing struts out of balsam wood!

If I had the time and money (my plane "building" skills are about as good as my sports forecasting - see Sweden vs. Canada Tonight thread for exactly how bad that can be!) I would be flying the models myself.

Damn Datter, that is some AWESOME toejam man. I assume your not as bad at modelling as me, but proficient to some extent. I didn't check the link yet, but the 109 dude is very good.

I have a soccer field adjacent to my digs that have guys flying the wire stuff every Sunday. Some are pretty fast I assume, as they are leaning way away from the plane in what appears as a stuggle of sorts. Cool stuff.

The RC planes are pretty much insane and would take some serious skill to fly, let alone build.

My best try in modelling was building a SaturnV rocket last month which unlike the plans is a hidious meld of plastic and cardboard the Boy Scouts would laugh and have no respect for my lack of attension to detail and craft skills.

Still, I'm launching it, toejamty paint job and all, as soon as the Reno weather winter winds won't land it in SJC, and me in trouble with the feds.

It made me realise, the awesome huge wingspan Corsair I wanted to build is just impossible for me to construct, let alone fly.

I spent about 10 years in R/C before computers and kids took my time away. I did a lot of scale (though not to the level as the gent in the picture- that takes serious dough I don't have). The list of projects I had (that I can remember):

P.S. It would seem that, due to overuse, I should have perked that Spitfire.

If you guys want to see these things up close, and if you want to see them crash, watch for the scale master competitions in your area (I assume they are still held). You will usually see over 100 of these beauties in all shapes and forms battle it out for the best of the show. In the air and on the ground it is a good show. And inevitably someone has a brain fart and winds up marching out to the crash site to collect his "re-kit". Not that you wish to have anyone destroy such a work of art, but if it has to happen, you want to see it...

...best crash I saw was between a 1/4 scale Dr. 1 and a 1/5 scale Piper. Close to head on, the Pipe lost a landing gear and ditched. The Fokker lost half the top wing and spun into the highway a few scant feet in front of some redneck in a pickup truck. You could hear that guy's surprised scream half a mile away (which is how far away the plane was when it hit). I have pics of what is left somewhere...

I've always thought the hand-launch-no-gear scale idea would be worthwhile.  Less weight, drag, cost, simplicity, strength, etc.  Glad to see that it worked for you and that the idea is doable.

I used to do gliders mostly. You can get a decent glider going for under $200.  They can be a blast and you can fly them all day under the right conditions.

I saw a beautiful 1/6 scale spit auger straight down, full throttle from 2 or 300 feet.  I almost barfed.
I also saw a stunt plane whack a light pole at high speed.  Very dramatic, it just rained model airplane parts.  Cracked the engine open and destroyed most everything.  
Last week I saw a helicopter auger.  It blew parts everywhere.  Big bucks down the tubes on that one.
