A piece of advice to the ranting Generals
« on: February 16, 2002, 09:06:23 AM »
For all of you _vocal_ strategist types that like to play General in MA, I offer this little piece of advice so it might help you generate some support for your cause of the moment...and as a result shut up on ch2 :).

Speak through missions, not the country channel.

Every night its the same thing. There's a small group (every country has them I'm sure) that constantly barks over ch2 about where folks should fight, and why, and how those that don't are all idiots. The rant is endless. Now I realize you see some grand strategy at work here, right or wrong, and that's fine. However to put that in motion you need some level support in the form of bodies. I can assure you that the tirades that we're forced to read through aren't helping your cause at all. On the contrary, they do the exact opposite. I rarely join missions but I will often help in an area if needed. However when I read enough of these rants I make a point of doing exactly the opposite of what that person is after.

If you want to move the fight in a certain direction, BUILD MISSIONS.  People will typically follow the action, and missions are instant action generators. Eventually even those that don't care about the overall strategy will lend their help too, not for that sake mind you, but just due to the fact that a good fight now rages in your area of concern.

Point being if you want to move the action over to a specific country or a specific area, start building missions there and you WILL get the action there. This isn't rocket science but from what I've seen its well beyond the grasp of some. Actually in many cases the very ones that rant are never the creators of a mission. Odd indeed...loud and lazy...wonderful combo :).

You all know who you are. Do yourselves and your countrymates a favor and get off ch2 with the rants. Speak with actions instead, I'm sure you'll enjoy the game much more. I know I will.

Once we get a permanent squelch, I don't care what you do, I won't hear you. In the interim though missions are there for a reason, use em.

Another thing to keep in mind is that there's a reason for all the squadron functions in the game. If you want to take over the world, find some like minded people, form a squadron, run missions, have fun. It's a VERY basic concept. Then, when you don't have enough people to take a base, you can whine to your squadies in an email or something.

Agree.  I have no problem with people who wants help at fields under attack, or a positive attempt to rally players to capture a base.  What I DO mind is players repeatdly telling me I'm stupid because I can't understand their "strategic vision" and persistently fill ch 2 with utterly useless crap about strategy and where and when we should attack or defend!

I pay to play this game, and thats why I reserve my right to take a quick spin in a fighter into a furball to have fun.  The strat-morons presents themself as negative self-obsessive and abusive dorks who should join a "clan" somewhere else on the net. Face it dorks - if u can understand it, then everybody else understands it.

and even if we understand it we may not care. I can get way more fighter perks dogfighting fer two hours in a g2 then the 20 for the reset.

Always some love muffin "WE NEED TO ATTACK V3 NOT FURBALL AT A24"

Well fek if takin v3 were fun it woulda got took........

People go where they are having fun. That 40+ mission planner gangbangs are not fun at all. especially when dont leave the fhs up so we can vulch. I am not gonna spend 30 min circlin over a smoked field pickin my arse.

You generals and admirals really outta form your own squad. You can spend your time on the squad channel beetchin about whos gonna lead who and how dumb everyone else for puttin 2 hours of fun over 20 perks.

i signed on in the morning and heard a general crying and sad....came back that afternoon and i tell ya the guy was still going!

it can't be good for you generals to be typing defeatist "no one cares about our victory, i guess i'll go hang mah head an' cryyyy" messages all day.

If they'd just wear ashes and sackcloth it would at least generate some sympathy.

(I'm a sucker for ashes and sackcloth)

Tune 2 and pay close attention eskimo. There's usually ample, uhm, trainers around willing to offer, er, advice.

hehe...

It gets easier when you realize there is "No Winning".  The concept of winning is an illusion.  The concept of "Having Fun" is the only tangible reward.

Do I need to be more serious?
