P-40 Kitty/War/Toma-HAWK :)
« on: February 18, 2002, 08:10:18 PM »
I don't know about the rest of you flyers, but i personally would love to see the P-40 added to the planes of Aces High. Particularly the model best described by view the movie "Pearl Harbor" It had the old USAAC color scheme or the Blue Circle, White Star, and Red dot with in the Star; with 'U.S. ARMY' written in bold letters abrest the underside of the wings. It was a beautiful plane with a rugged, durable construction. Besides the P47, and P51, the P40 was the most produced plane in the United States during WWII. I strongly urge the hard-working Aces High team to consider my request. I am practially on my hands and knees here :). Let me know what all of you think. I hope you can see my perspective. I will add more P40 info to this thread upon request.
HAPPY LANDINGS!!

To quote some hundred players: "whats a plane set without a P40?" and "how can you build a decent early war historical scenario without a P40?"

Bring the P40 to AcesHigh!
"And one of the finest aircraft I ever flew was the Macchi C.205. Oh, beautiful. And here you had the perfect combination of italian styling and german engineering .... it really was a delight to fly ... and we did tests on it and were most impressed." - Captain Eric Brown

P-40 would be nice especaly if you fly in pairs. If a AC gets on you tail you wingmate swoops down and bounces him. It's what the Flying Tigers did agenst the superior Japanese AC.:D BRING IT, BRING IT, BRING IT, BRING IT, BRING IT, BRING IT, BRING IT, BRING IT. I want my P-40:D :D :D

I could be wrong, but I don't think HiTech and Pyro accept that kind of bribe :)

The P-40 would be just a target in the current MA setup.  However I wouldn't be surprised to see changes to the MA in 1.09 to give the early spits and 109s an opportunity to fight each other without dodging La7s all the time.  I also would not be surprised to see a P-40 soon either.  Once there is a viable place for early war planes I expect P-40s to come along pretty quickly.

You're absolutely right...

P-40's have an incredible historical and gameplay role that I would like to see added to the planeset. In the same token they would be MA fodder. The P-40 wasn't all that great of an airplane. It was mediocre at doing anything and the way they portrayed it in Pearl Harbor was horse-hockey. I agree on the fact that several P-40's did actually shoot down some Jap planes during the Pearl Harbor encounter, however a few .303 rounds would not rip the wing off of a zero nor cause it to immediately burst into flames. I love the movie for its WWII plane footage, however the producers portray the P-40 as the end-all be-all of threats to the Japanese. Anyone have a clue when we will see a modern day movie dedicated to WWII aircraft again? (Mempshis Belle and Midway are good, but dated).

about the .303 cal, and misleading of capabilities in 'Pearl Harbor'
« Reply #7 on: February 19, 2002, 07:24:57 PM »
I understand that it wasn't the best fighter in the early days, but it did the job, and did it right. To respectfully correct the gentleman who commented on the .303 cal, the Model portyed in 'Pearl Habor' was the 'E' model (I'm ALMOST positive). The E-model had wingmounted .50 cal, 3 in each wing. This gave it the equivelant firepower of a P-51D Mustag. The .50 cals were indeed a powerful weapon. The zero did outperform the P-40, but not by leaving it in its dust. The P40 was able to out-dive a zero for instance. One U.S.A.A.C. P-40 Captain recalled he was able to take a British R.A.F. ACE who was in a Hurricane and was able to get on his tail during the test run. I personally think the P40 was not portrayed terribly off in the movie 'Pearl Harbor' but everyone is definatly entitled to their opinion. :)

Until May 1944 the USAAF had more P-40 than either P-38 or P-51.

The P-40 couldnt TURN w/Zero's. In our ignorance at the beginning of WW2 this is what our guys did/tried and died doing. The entire concept of E fighting didnt exist for us. Our Pilots where trained in WW1 tactics more or less I think.

I've read somewhere that a P-40 was actualy a plane that could turn pretty well..dived well, good speed below 20k etc. It would prob do okay in the MA w/the right Pilot behind the stick.

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

I too would love to see the p40.
The only reason I need is that it was probably the best looking plane of the war.  Nothing looks meaner.

Also, it dives well and handles like a dream in a quick dive (at least in aw it did).  In the movie it did have the 3 .50s, and at one point pretty boy afffffflaaaaaaaacck warned the other pretty boy that they were outclassed by the zero and that they had to dive into the city after take off if they were to have any chance.  Of course how they ended up with the upper hand was pure donkey dribble.

Did I mention the plane just looks great?

Bring the P-40 with the AVG Flying Tiger paint scheme!!!!
If the P-40 comes to AH I might just stop flying the 38 altogether :)

AVG colors (i respond too much, i'm sorry hehe)
« Reply #13 on: February 21, 2002, 01:00:59 AM »
:)I wouldn't mind seeing the AVG colors up. Maybe AH can even put in the 'C' Model of which the AVG most commonly flew. But would the AVG insignia look right when flown against the US, British, Russian, German, Italian, and Japanese dominated fighters? (And one Finish the Me109g-2) :)

:D I want (Sooo baaaad) the 'E' model. *6 .50 cal. Drop tanks, bomb loadouts, and the old USAAC color scheme* described in my first reply above. Sound good?:D

man, what a tough decision.  That black looks real nice, but the teeth are wicked too.

If I had to choose I would take the black I guess.
