ABIT Kt7-RAID
1.4 GHZ Tbird
768 megs pc133 SDRAM(cas2)
Geforce II MX400 32 meg
PCI-512 SB
2 x 30 gig ATA100+ 7200 rpm WD hard drives running RAID +0
triple boot: WindowsXP+Windows98+ Linux Redhat 7.0
Percision 2 Sidewinder (USB)
USB Sidewinder game pad

This is all true for Windows98 and windows XP:
I cant figure out what the heck is wrong with my sissy-twisty stick, i think its about dead. from a cold boot it is fully functional, calibrates fine and will run great in any game.  But after a few minutes of any game i go dead stick and it will not respond to the system in game controlers or in device manager. Although the flight stick doesnt work any longer the game pad is just fine.  Even after a reboot the stick is not recognized buy the system untill i unplug it and reconnect it. I havent tried it in linux i should note but i dont think the OS is the problem since it exsist in both versions of windows.

I can supply more info if needed.

Any help would be great! thanks in advance

Have you tried this stick on other computers? if it reiterates the same issue you are probably dealing with a stick gone bad or the cable.

Do you have a self powered USB hub? My USB CH set up was giving me fits until I tried one. No sudden death-o-stick anymore.

My other PC doesnt have USB ports, its a old k6-500 (ASUS ALI P5-A mobo). If i really wanted to check i could install my USB card on it for testing, but thats certainly  last resort trouble shooting step.

but one thing i have done is replace the USB ports with a PCI card indsted of the on-board USB support that the KT7 has. That USB controller had serious issues with dropping devices offline, including my gamepad (not flight-stick)which doesnt have any issues now.

I also should note that i dont have a hub connected to the PC.

Last night i played for a few hours w/o a problems again so it seems the problem does not exsist any more. This has been bugging me for a month and now it just "goes away".. this flight stick is possessed!

im now just hoping the problem doesnt return.

It could have been something as futile as the USB device disconnecting from the USB card. Personaly i think those devices should mount more stable into the host device, they come unpplugged entirely to easy.
