Not a houshold name.
He is a Dallas local who landed his C-54 on a frozen lake in northern Greenland to rescue a downed B29 crew. They made a documentry film about the salvage of the B29 (unsuccessful) decades later.

Is that the B29 that caught on fire while taxiing around after months and months of work? I watched a documentary where they brought in rebuilt engines, spent a ton of money, 1 guy died during getting the plane ready. Then they finally get all four engines running, he's taxiing and some heater in the back of the plane falls over and it catches fire. They had to sit there and watch it burn. Made me sick.
