Welcome aboard guys.

I left WB a while ago, dont miss it at all.  You will need to make a few adjustments though, and the head moving under high G's is one.  But like others mentioned, I don't notice it anymore, and you won't either after a very short while.

You will also have to get used to frequent updates and improvements,  they do come along alot quicker here.  It keeps the game more interesting.

Also, try to get used to the idea of a company that has decent support, and one that doesnt have the webpage address changing every year or two.

You may be amused by using new features about a year before the competiton rolls them out, stuff like steerable CV groups, M16 half track, tanks, etc.

The flight modeling is differant, and it will be a big adjustment, but once you get used to it, you wouldnt go back to the old one for anything.  Take my word on that.

One of the reasons I left WB after many years was the ever changing, ever getting hosed up gunnery and damage modeling.  AH guns are quite lethal.  I suggest not dwelling on that, rather concentrate on not letting someone get a shot at you, its brain processing time better spent.

The WB community was a great group, but AH has many fine players too.

Welcome WB'ers! You'll get used to the head bobbing very quickly: I think that almost everyone that has been here for a tour or more even has forgotten it exists.

Annoying at the beginning, then not having it seems gamey.

As a sidenote: if you got a spiky joystick, as I did when I had analog sticks, the head bobbing is *extremely* annoying, to such a degree that I stopped playing just because of that.

'Hard to configure view system'? Quite simple: move your head left/right/up/down/back/forward as you want, press F10 to save it in that position. If you mean the 18 different views, didn't WB have something like that?

I think you'll find that AH is worth the $14.95 you spend on it. It'll take a few days to get used to but as WB'ers you're used to hi fidelity FM's :).

Always good to get good new sticks into the game. Looking forward to flying with you and against you :).

I also came from WB, and agree with others that you will soon forget the head shake.

To compensate for lack of engine pitch change with airspeed change, turn the volume of the "wind" to maximum, and turn everything else down to 75% or so.  This will give you an audio cue for airspeed change.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks fir the good clues,  I am at my office now but will try the f10 thing - I think that was what I was missing.  If I understnad correctly then - for each position of my hat switch I can do a f10 save.  FOr example I want be able to see backwards righjt and left around the headrest withou holding down a bunch of keys - F10 will fix this?

Great tip on the wind noise - I had no idea how much feedback I was getting from the engine noises before - really hurting me now in trying to guess my energy level.  This might fix me up.

each view position is adjustable using the 4 arrow keys and poage up and down. eack can be saved using f10.

What planes do ya fly?

maybe some one can email ya their view settings that way you wont have to mess with it too much. I believe snefens used to keep view settings on his webpage to dl.

I dont have a link tho.........

Welcome new guys.  You'll find most of this crowd cut their teeth on WB, and some AW before that.  Heck, HT and Pyro came from AW, built WB, and now AH.

The view system IMHO is simply the natural evolution of the WB's view system.  It's basically the same, with the notable improvement of a 3D cockpit with a configurable head position for each view in each aircraft.  That's pretty sweet.  For some more info on the view system, I put an article together on it here:

http://lephturn.webhop.net/views.htm

Note... the gunsight setup doesn't work the same way anymore.  I need to update that portion... just ignore the gunsight bit for now. :)

Mandoble, what about those of you who don't use gunsights?

I don't care, but most people do use gunsights. _ALL_ WWII pilots used gunsights. It's not eyecandy.

You use the top of your gunsight as your reference point? Well what does that tell me about you? That you save your forward viewpoint higher than the default because you are one of those people who want to use it to your advantage so you can do lead shooting much easier.

Sorry, but in real life I'm 5'9", there's no way in hell I could ever have my head moved up to the top of the canopy, therefore I don't save my head position so my eyeballs are affixed to the canopy right above my head to make it easier for lead shooting- I like a challenge.
