Look out for us
« on: February 20, 2002, 09:58:25 PM »
New batch of players OTW, this time Warbirds.  I think there is a WB squad forming even :)

War Birds is increasing price to 25 buck, with 3 months of hoarded updates as the carrot.  Not flying with alot of folks who signed up at $9.95.

Sooo, Get ready for some new names.  AH is a different game, even with all that head shaking around and hard to configure view system it's still worth a solid 14.95.

If HT were to turn off or make optional that head shaking - and vary engine noise with load/speed of plane - AH would be a perfect home for any WB flyer who isn't into hiway robbery rate increases.

If you think the head shaking is bad when you are manuevering, you're in for a big surprise when you fire your guns!

I dunno why you guys wouldn't like it, afterall, the gunsight moves with the head so it really doesn't effect your aiming or anything.

As for the engine noise, I asked HT way back in 1.03 or 1.04 why the engine pitch didn't change as the plane got faster but it did as the plane slowed down and he said that it was because he couldn't get it to sound good enough as the speed increased so he did it the way it is now.

I dunno if that applies to the noise as your engine struggles (in a pure vertical move when you are very slow), but I'd guess it does.

Other than that, welcome to AH.

Fly any other game and notice whats missing.  It is no surprise yall got used to it,  maybe we will too.  But yeah I bet ya it's #1 reason most WB players shy away from AH.

I remember from orignal beta days - its nothing like it was but its still there.  HT is a stubborn CUS.

Are you talking about the shaking due to compression?

I recall when I first started flying AH that the head shake was extremely annoying.  The truth is though, after about two weeks (tm) I pretty well didn't even notice it anymore.  As for the view system, in what way do you feel it is difficult to configure?

When you go back and review films the headshake is gone and its CORNY AS HELL without it.  As for the view system: 24 views at the push of a button and STILL the best view system yet designed, using PAN views of course (although losing the dead 6 would be interesting for sure).

Im looking forward to some freash WBs meat YEAH BABY!!!

Yeager <--flew WBs 96-99 when it was WORTH $2 per hour :)

Welcome and enjoy!  If you don't like the head shaking or cockpit shake, just give it a week or two.  After that you won't even know it's there.  Hell, until you just mentioned the head shaking I didn't even know it was there.  :)

And what does that suppose to mean? View system in AH hard to configure? IMHO AH has the best configurable view system I have ever seen in any flight sim...

Honcho, what the hell are you talking about. DO you have any idea how many of us came here from WBs? I flew it for 5 years under 2 handles, Squad handle was --wd--. You will find many here from WBs and AW-DOS. So please dont think your the 1st WBs guy to move to AH :)

2 weeks and youll be in the swing of things.

What about all of us who dont use the GS at all? I found it totally useless for D9 guns, so I use the top of the sight as reference, and this moves like hell when I fire the guns. I dont want that "eye candy" effect at all, it keeps ruining my aiming all the time. In the 262 the firing effect is hilarious.
