Question on C205
« on: February 21, 2002, 05:34:06 PM »
Is this thing considered a wonder/dweeb plane?

I kept getting clobbered by it a couple of nights ago and decided to take one up myself.  Other than a lack of visibility,  I love the thing!

Good firepower, decent speed, great manouverability and pretty good hardness.  (I took 3 seperate hits last night on one flight.  1 from a 190, 1 from a 47 and one from a 109 and all I lost was an aleron and a landing gear.)

I'm pretty sure this has already been covered in depth, but I'm only just getting back in.

Ouch out

Quite the contrary.  It's concidered, by most, to be one of the worst planes in the stable.

The 205 is definitely one of the most underrated planes in AH.  In the right hands, it's a formidable opponent.  I'm surprised I don't see more of them.  You're on to something good there, Ouch. :)

Yeah, but in the right hands any plane can be deadly.  Just takes better hands in the 205 then most other planes.  I'm not going to claim I'm an expert in it, but, look at it's stats.  Look at it's performance compared to the other planes.

The C205 could well be the most underrated plane in AH.  It does everything pretty well, but not spectacularly, and it dives better than most planes.  Firepower and ammo are good too.  The only big drawbacks are the birdcage and the low fuel load.

People who try to fly it like a Spit V contribute to its poor stats.  Use it mostly for BnZ, and be choosy about who you turnfight against.

I love the 205, when I used to fly in the MA, I would get most of my kills in it, one knight while vulching in it I killed 10 Georges, landed it and got like 50 perks! The 20mm MG 151 20's are outside the ark of the prop so you get a little better ROF out of them (10% better I think) If I take 75% I can reach most bases and RTB in the MA, 100% last's a decent amount of time. I tend to zoom and boom when the tank is full and as it burns off to say 25% I more inclinded to tun it, US planes are easly outmanuaverd in it, the Spit 9 is not so much a threat as the spit 5, I will atempt to turn fight a spit 9 if I am low on fuel. It dives very well, I have caught P 51's in a dive before. The Alies rated it the best Axis fighter in the med during 1943.

I'm pretty much an AH dweeb but even I did well in the 205.

You need to burn the wing tanks out first as I recall.. the roll rate changes for the better if you do.

I flew the thing for one entire tour for the heck of it. Got hammered in it initially until I figured out what it could and could not do.

Once I found its strengths and flew to those, I did amazingly well in it considering I'm not that good. Given a bit of altitude, I wasn't afraid of anything.

I like it a lot... 'cept for the "birdcage" of course.

Most of you guys are good sticks and on average will beat the majority no matter what you are in.

In the proper hands...

With a bit of alt...

This assumes an advantage of some kind.  Either in the pilot or the situation.

Imagine that you actually had to fly a real duel, life and death stuff.  What planes would you take the C205 over?

The C205 is like  a P-51B with a little worse dive/top speed.

And its an awesome plane. I hate its bad visibility, but its great to fly.

"Underrated" does not mean "best."  The 205 is above average in many categories, but it's not the best in any single one.  It's underrated because the 205, given equal pilots, should perform better than most would expect against the current planeset.  There are plenty of planes that I'd choose over it in a duel situation, but I'd also choose it over many others.  I'd prefer a 205 to a 202, 109F, 109G2/6, Yak-9T, Hurricane, and 190A8 for instance.

If you want to get perk points the best thing you can fly is the C.205.

Its not a great fighter by AH standards, but its not a bad one either and unlike the Bf109s it is pretty easy to use, plus its got 2 cannon with lots of ammo.  The C.205 is about on par with ENY 25 aircraft, yet it has an ENY of 40.

IMO the C.205 is, by far, the most underated fighter in AH.

The 205 is a great arena bird.  It has many, many defects, but if you know how to use it, you can be deadly.
Think of the guys who are really good at the Spit IX.  They use that plane in a different way than most.  Now take them out of the spit, and put them in a ride built around a DB605 powerplant and MG151/20s.  Only instead of a butt-ugly late-30's design, you get a gorgeous 1940s Italian model, complete with babe-magnet paint job.  Lethality with style.

that's all you need in this life.

The C205 is kind of like the Bf109G6, it's true capabilities are much higher than its simple performance figures and expected handling would show.

In other words it's a good experts plane.

what GRUNHERZ said, a 109G6 with better hi speed control and better weapon set.
