An alternative to the Goon
« on: February 24, 2002, 07:19:29 AM »
Presenting the Bristol Type 130 'Bombay'. British Warplanes of WW2, p 39.

It's slower than the goon, and has a shorter range (but can take external drop tanks), but has guns fore and aft. It could also load 2000 lb of bombs instead.

Given the large number of non-strat players, I'd suggest that it's worth doing to give the strat players some defense.

Google it here http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Bristol+Type+130+Bombay&btnG=Google+Search

Would sugest a JU290 instead. Was capeble of transporting troops aswell as carrying anti shipping missiles, would give us two in one.

i'd prefer an LI-2 (the one from il-2), its the Russian version of the c47, it could carry troops and bombs, and had guns

The Armstrong Whitworth Albemarle was used by the Commonwealth, France and USSR and is a rather nice looking plane that could be used as a bomber, troop transporter and glider tug.

However, you got to have the Ju-52 in here, it's so ugly it's beautiful!  :)

Well, to quote a smart, good looking, and peerless.... er me:

I'll go for an Axis one:

Payload 40 + troops and their equipment, or one fighter (dismantled)

Empty weight 23,259lbs, max 39,727lbs

Armament one .50 and four light mgs. and or , or 8,818lbs as a bomber

Range 1,864 miles

Max speed 230mph, cruising 186mph

Built 400+

S.M. 82 Canguru

As compaired to the Ar 232:
..............S.M. 82....................Ar 232
Number built..400.................9
Top speed......230 mph.........211
Cruse speed..186 mph.........180
Range............1,864 miles.....658 miles
Max takeoff weight minus empty weight
......................16,468 lbs......18,371 lbs

Just tie a snow sled to the back of 262, toss a couple troops on, give it beans, and let lift do the rest :D

On this token, I would like to see the flying boats like the Catalina or the Japanese Emily that can take off from ports as another plane that can fly cargo and troops. :)

How about the Curtiss Commando
Similar to the c43, but a lot more HP's delivering more payload faster.;)
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

I think HTC should give us a German troop plane, and have the troops that jump out yell "Schnitzel" :D

Yup, S.M 82 is good transport. It should have had heavier defensive armament tho. Ar232 was quite rare, even prototypes were put into service,(flown into stalingrad) when S.M 82 was built in numbers. Italian transport would be nice addition imo.
