How Can I Aim Ship's Guns ?

When using ships guns, I lose sight of the target when I raise the gun enough to reach the target. A year or two ago, I remember that there was a way to keep the target in view while raising the gun, but I either forgot how to do it, or the key-commands for doing this has changed.

I read the Help page about the 3 gunning modes:
Land, Sea, and Direct, but this was no help in telling me how to keep the target in view while elevating the ship's guns.

Can someone give me a step, by step procedure for gunning a distant target while keeping it in view on the screen?

Key F8
Then pan down with #2 on keypad.

Also you can do this:
Once in gun, bring up map with ESC, press w, click on target on the map with the mouse cursor, gun will move and aim to target, press fire on joystick

Thanks ! the F8 keypad trick is the one that I had forgot.
It sure is a lot easier to adjust your fire if you can keep your
target in view all of the time. I had previously sunk some enemy ships many miles away, using this.
