Local Area Network Play???
« on: February 24, 2002, 03:59:11 PM »
V 1.8 has a feature in the H2H set up for LAN play.  How do you set up to play on two computers on your home network?  Anybody try this?
Thanks

Assuming you have a TCP/IP network already running on your LAN and AH 1.08 installed on both machines, it's quite simple.  I've tried it and it works fine.

On the most powerful computer, start AH and click on the H2H button.  Click the LAN box at the top of the H2H screen and press the Host button and finish setting up your game.  Now fire up H2H on the second computer and press H2H, then select LAN box and choose select game.  You should see the game you created, select it and jump in.  It works great. :)

I had a problem getting games to launch like this a while back and posted it, never got a response though.

my LAN is configured properly, we play many multiplayer games with out any problems at all. But i fire up AH and try it and no dice. I can see the host game and when you select it you get a CTD and no error.

Also i shold note that if i host a online H2H game that no other PC on my network can join the game, same deal as above.

very odd i think

The only thing that i can think of is the router, but NO other game has problems with it. I have the latest firmware for it and its running just fine.

i can run multiplayer:
quake III arena, rocket arena
age of empires II conqueors
empire earth
battle relms
SWAT III
return to castle wolfenstein
ghost recon
(more i cannot think of off the top of my head)

I can also file share on the network.

both machines has windows XP installed and nearly identical hardware. if you need the specs let me know, i honestly dont think that the pc's hardware is the culprit, we've tried 3 different PC's and no deal.

Thanks Leph;
It worked once but I got so flustered trying to catch the mossie I set up on autoclimb with my JU88 that I got all flustered and suspect I screw up the setup the second time.  Gonna keep at it till I have it down pat and then I can play with myself :D
