Tentative Con 2002 Dates
« on: February 27, 2002, 02:32:47 PM »
Hi all.

Well, it's that time again. Plans for the 3rd Annual Aces High Convention are in full swing.

Please keep in mind that we do not have a contract signed yet as negotiations are still taking place. This could be subject to change. So don't purchase those airline tickets yet! We did want to let the community know what we had in mind for this year’s convention.

In hopes that more members of our community will be able to attend, we have modified our dates from previous years.  The following is what is presently in the works:

August 1st - 4th, 2002
Embassy Suites Outdoor World
2401 Bass Pro Drive
Grapevine, TX

Due to the success of the Aces High Convention last year and the fact that we weren't asked to vacate the premises prematurely ;)  , we have decided to stay at the same property.

Again, the contract is not finalized so they will not be taking any reservations as of yet. When everything has been confirmed, we will announce immediately and open up registration.

We wanted to let everyone know about the schedule change and hopefully that permits more people to join us.

We look forward to another successful Aces High Convention! We'll keep you posted on the progress.

Regards,

Yankee

Texas?  In August?

Surely ye jest!

Too damn hot!  I'm all in favor of coming down there when its freezing up here.  But the last time I was in Texas in August, I was staying at this little resort called "Lackland Air Force Base" (and boy, it lacked alright!) for 6 weeks.  Many days over 100 degrees and pretty much miserable.

What's the reported room rates this time around?  Last years were well above what my rent is :D

Seriously, I'd probably pass on a con in August.  The September/October timeline is generally when I aim my vacation time here.

I got you beat, LePaul.  I was at Lackland in August twice! First for 6 weeks for basic, then for 90 days (July-August-Sept) for OTS.  Ah, the fond memories...NOT!

Seriously, those dates work okay for me.  Friday the 2nd of August falls on one of my scheduled days off, so I only have to take one day of vacation to attend :).

Huge difference between San Antonio in August anf the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

One word; HUMIDITY

The humidity in San Antonio rarely falls below 80%, whereas in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area it is usually half that.   Makes a big difference in the way the heat feels.

Besides, those of us that live in Texas know the old adge, "If ya dun't like the weather, wait a minute,..it'll change". :D

We have this invention in Grapevine, Texas called air conditioning.  It really helps in the summertime.  I know it may be new and scary technology to you northerners, but trust me, it's great.  This is also one of the reasons our cons are held inside instead of outside. :) :p ;) :p :)

edit: don't know how to spell

Hell,

I have you both beat.

I lived and grew up in SAT, home of Lackland.

I spent (too many) summers in SAT. (Texas)

I know what Augusts are like in SAT. (Texas)

I remember one summer where the highs were in the 107 degree F range.

And all this without air-conditioning.

I used to get in the family car, turn on the air and just sit there.

Yes, Really.

You guys at HTC need to get your heads examined, seriously.

This is not meant in a funny manner.

On the good side, I'm not planning on being there so ....

August is good...the heat gets you nice and dehydrated so you can get drunk cheaper. Do they have drive-thru liquor stores in the area, or will I have to actually get out of my car to get booze? ;)

Yankee - isn't Grapevine just north of Lewisville? If so, I can make it (can stay at friends in Lewisville).

But in August? Yeech. I was in Dallas/Fort Worthless mid July. It was HOT. DAMN HOT. SO HOT...well, I don't have to go into it. 115's every day. Eeeech! But I'm assuming the conference room is air conditioned? Right Yankee? Right? :D
