SCTV is on the air
« on: February 27, 2002, 04:55:48 PM »
Actually, it's not at all anymore here in the states. I'm looking for one of you hosers from the Great White North who would be interested in some tape trading. Is there something you can't get up North that would be nice to watch? Please e-mail if interested. Even if I could get a couple of SP master tapes of some episodes to start trading with collectors it would be appreciated.

For those who don't know, Second City Television was a comedy ensemble show that was set in an "UHF" caliber TV network trying to compete with the big boys. It was a hilarious spoof of television and the cultural icons of the time. SCTV ran from the mid 1970s until about 1984 featuring Dave Thomas, Cathrine O'Hara, Andrea Martin, Eugene Levy, John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Martin Short, and Rick Moranis. I usually aired on PBS or on NBC after SNL. IMO, and the opinion of many others, it was far superior to SNL even in the "Not Ready for Prime Time Players" days. So far, though, tapes have been on the back burner (though that may change soon, at least for the NBC produced 90 min shows) because the producers failed to clear music rights (no budget to, really) and to clear them today would be costly.

Here's a show site link:SCTV

Anyway, anyone from Canada who would be interested please let me know. It airs pretty regularly on the Comedy Network.
