Video Problems - Need Help
« on: February 24, 2002, 09:12:03 PM »
Maybe Lephturn could help me out on this one. I have a Dell System with 400 MHZ CPU Pentium 2 and a 32 MB Video Card and I have been seeing drops in FR dramastically! I am currently running Windows XP and as soon as I upgraded I saw dramatic increases in video now its just slumping off or something. I have downloaded the latest drivers, I have defragmented my computer, I don't know what else to do? I have talked to a couple of members in my squad VMF 323 ~Death Rattlers~ and they said it is my CPU and I need to upgrade that. I am thinking about buying a new CPU and motherboard and maybe even a new video card. If anybody has any suggestions at all, they are very much appreciated! THANX!!

I had some serious problems with my video, with no apparent reason. I removed my vid card from my computer using the device manager, reinstalled by rebooting, problem solved. Worth a shot if nothing else and its free :-)

Exactly what video card are you running, and what drivers version are you using?  What resolution and color depth are you running AH at?

A PII 400 is going to have some troubles with AH though.  That's on the low side for computing power, and AH relies heavily on Floating Point math from the CPU to run fast.  I think the advice you got was likely good... your best upgrade will probably be the CPU, but in order to do that you are going to have to do a major upgrade... Mainboard, CPU, RAM, possibly video too.

I have a 3D Prophet NVidia GEForce2 Video Card 32 MB. I am using the latest driver I could find.  I am running 1024 x 768 resolution for Aces High 16 bit. I think I solved the problems. My FR was averaging about 40 last night, so that was good. If I have any more problems I will send another post.
