What If???
« on: March 02, 2002, 01:52:25 AM »
What if you could travel back in time to the beginning of WW2 for the US and you couldn't return. Would you go??
I have often thought about if I could go back in time to 1942 enlist and fly whatever plane they would let me.. I would in heartbeat. I would ask "where do I sign" :). If I lived to the end of the war I wouldn't care about it being the late 40's. Its just a simpler time than it is now. And Well if I didn't live I would be helping to bring down the AXIS powers and winning WW2.  If things worked out the way I wanted I would be flying P-38s. With the Headhunters of the 80th Fighter Squad in the PTO. And sometimes I get feelings I don't belong in this time period. Like I should be 20 in 1942 flying P-38s or F4Us. Anyone else get those kind of feelings?? Since I was really young I have always wanted to fly 38s like something was drawing me to do that. Even before I knew what most planes were I was building models of 38s. Yall don't laugh at this now I'm being serious. Hell even before I knew what a airplane was I built a P38 model. I don't know maybe I was a 38 driver in a past life. :) But if i was given a chance to go back in time to fly whatever. I would!
Tell me what yall think and if yall would  do it.

No, not if I had the choice.  I wouldn't want to tinker with history.

Now, what if you appeared, not of your choice, in your present location, but in 1937.  Give yourself a passport and ID papers and $1,500.00 in currency.

What would you do?

How do you explain to them that Ronald Reagan becomes President in 1980?

How do you explain the internet?

You could invent the Silicon clip waaay before 1973

You could buy a million shares of microsoft in 1986..

You could warn JFK

LOL

I'd go, don't know for what country I'd fight but I'd go, without any doubts at all.

I'd guess I'd fly for Allies, although my dream is to fly something in the LW inventory I wouldn't wanna fight for Hitler.

It's the same death in 1942 as in 2002. I like it where I am.

If I got the chance to fly, I'd mess with History, after all, it would be history once again, a bit different but history. Soooo, who's got a time machine?

Me? dang. If I had 1 mill 500 grand in cash in 1937... wow. Thats like having 500 mill. today. :)

Lets see... first off I'd buy out Lockheed, or at least get 55% of their shares.. so they will do what I want *G*.

I dont think i'd interfere with history.. after all, thats MY greatest advantage, I KNOW whats gonna happen. I would change some minor stuff... like fixing the 38 problems and getting the 38K/L models "done" right after the "A" model. Putting maybe merlins or a nice radial on it, who knows.

But aside from that, i'd make my own little empire.. perhaps buying out one of the marhsall islands.... setting up shop...

and sip margarita's with a lovely native girl until the 80's, making sure lockheed martin is still mine... and THEN putting all my money and efforts on giving NASA a damn good competitor in the Space bussiness.

Mir? Skylab? Freedom? Bwhahaah. Mine will be much bigger and cozier. :D :D :D

Doofus.... he said 1,500.00.  Thats Fifteen Hundred.  You couldnt buy Lockheed with that even back then :p.  I'd go back in a half a heartbeat.  I'd be flying for the Navy and loving every second of it.  On second thought, maybe the Marines... they didn't have to fly from carriers.  I'd look up my grandpa and be like "Wasssaaaabiiii"  " Damn Grandpa.. you are a LOT skinnier at 18 than you'll be at 76..." :D

I'd definately be flying for the U.S. or R.A.F. though, you couldnt pay me enough to fly for the Nazis- though I think their planes look pretty damn cool :).

Start flapping- My 4th floor apartment would disappear and I would be on my way down fast.

Then it would take a long time still to make it to France, whereupon I would enroll as a pilot in the air-force there. Then I would join the NN and fly in Russia :)

After the war I would (assuming I lived!) probably invest everything I had into Coca-Cola shares and live on my illicit gambling proceeds :D
