In relation to the cartoon - The P-400 was not a P-40 version. The P-400 was the export version of the P-39D AIRCOBRA.

Most were shipped to the Russians & British but a few were held back and sent with the USAAF's 347th FG, 67th FS to Guadalcanal were they were promptly cut to pieces by the Zero's. They did find a lease on life in being one of the best ground attack planes of the campaign.

Yeah, I remember being sooooo confused by the P-400. At first, I figured it was a typo. Then it just kept showing up. I don't remember where I finally found out what it was.

P-39 was good plane. Amis just werent good enough pilots.

P-39 was a favourite weapon of Pokryshkin, he still flew on that type, when his all 9th Fighter Division was already all reequiped by La-7 fighters.

He scored officially 59 enemy planes. But in opinion of some historicans his killboard list should be enlarged by next 13 victories, scored in battles over Kuban. During free hunt over German territory he downed a row of enemy planes, but in that period Soviet Command confirmed only planes destroyed over own area.

Getting BACK to the P40
« Reply #7 on: March 05, 2002, 05:30:46 PM »
It was indeed mentioned about a week ago, check the archives you might find it interesting. I too would definatly love to see the P-40 introduced, expecially the 'E' model. If you read my thred from a couple weeks ago, you'll see what i think 15 people had to say about it. And just for the record, the zero DID outurn the P40, but the P40 put up one helluva fight. And thats the truth. The P40 was rated by the Japs as the best low alt fighter, rating the p38 the best high alt fighter. They later rated the F4 Corsair the best overall. :D :D BRING THE P40!!!:D :D

P400 = another plane with hispano-cannon, prolly better in AH than P-39 with 37mm T-9 cannon thought I would rather see P-63 KingCobra which would be better in MA (IMHO).

Staga, whats wrong in p-39q-10? It has good rollrate. It's fast. It has excellent gun. It has quite food controls at high speed (outmaneuvers most opponents in dives). It is instabile(makes possible some awesome maneuvers and allows very fast aiming from weird angles).

It's just great Z&B plane.

Well im true 190A junkie (real men fly radials:D)....p39 is only other plane that has really impressed me.

Yeah, this would be a good addition to AH...

I'd personally like to see the P-40 & the P-39 both added.

I have personally not flown either plane in any other flight sim.

I'm not sure if the P-40 has ever been in a flight sim at all, if it has, it's news to me.

I haven't flown all flight sims, like MS Combat Flight Sim, never did try that one, oh well.

Anyway, the P40 & P39 would be great additions, among so many others I'd like to eventually see.  :)

For what it's worth AirWarrior had the P-40e. Only way I could get kills in it was to hide a sack of E under my chair, and surprise "faster" fighters.
