Hiding fleet, need opinions
« on: March 04, 2002, 08:21:45 PM »
Hi all,

Few hours ago I got control over fleet and moved it in the secure place, by other words I decided to hide it. I got some heated discussion on the country channel, and even had one of coutry mates to go to channel 1 and give fleet location away.

I want to explain why I think that fleet hidding is ok. First of all, I want to clarify that I know that fleet hidding ruins the game play. It keep fleet away from action for hours and days, and this is not good. Before 1.08 this I used to return fleet to nits and rooks, while keeping giving suggestions how this gap in a game play can be fixed.

My position totally changed after 1.08. HTC's decision of a problem were -- fleet can't go off map. Yet it is understandable that on isles map, for example, it it still lot of playes where fleet can be hidden.

I understand this as message that fleet hiding is ok and part of gameplay, as well as hidden fleet hunting. If HTC wanted to just remove fleet hiding, they could easily add fleet counter -- when fleet's port is captured even if fleet is not sink in goes back to port in 3 hours (time can be set for each map depends on its size). It is not real, but not more unreal that gv's spawnpoints. Will make fleet hiding completle useless, and will force fleet owners to move fleets back into recapturing ports.

I am sure other decisions exists too, but I am sure that the current setup is clearly shows that hiding fleets is ok. I am tired of half measures, like fleets are back sometime, they are hidden sometime; and when every decision -- hidden fleet or returning it to owner creates discussions on the team channel.

Want your oppinions.

I've been on both sides of the fence as well Fariz.
I've hidden fleets, yet
I have run them back into enemy teritory... to be sunk,
and have even told the enemy where they are.

The 3 hour back to port idea is a good one and gets my vote.

I think to get the fleet back you have to sink it. period. no free field captures.

Ports are as easy to capture as vbases and cvs sink easily. Added together it adds for better gameplay.

Fleets in ah are not an usefull offensive weapon anyway

1. because the admirals always park the fleet off someones base ensuring that a suicidal dweeb will kill it and that its found easily.

2. they are easily killed

the fleets only usefullness is defending its own port.

sail the fleet to far from its home port is the easiest way to get its home port captured and the cv handed to the other side.

Once your side captures 1 or more nme  fleets then using the fleet as an offensive weapon makes more sense.

Now to hiding a cv........

well if the cv was defending its home port then there would be no need to hide it.

But once the port is captured anything that makes it harder for the nme to get it is exceptable.

Its not their fleet until they capture the port and sink the cv.

I care nothing for cvs. I would be happy with out umm in AH.

Now instead of using the rank system to determin who gets to co the fleet I would suggest assigning a perk value to it . Say 10 vehicle perks (we dont use those anyway). This way we may get more of rl use out of our cv. No driving up to a base and using it  as a flack platform. It would make the the fleet commander defend his own fleet and keep the cvs in places where they are a bit harder to locate.

And if a guy releases the command of a fleet theres a 5 min timer where if the fleet is sunk he still loses his perks. Also when ever the fleet has no commander after 5 min it heads for its home port.
Also make the fleet commander stay within 25 miles of the fleet or he automatically loses command.

There are numerous ways to get a more of a rl use out of a cv then what we currently have.

The question is is it worth it? and would it add to better gameplay. My perk is idea would mean longer flight times and very little up die up again style the cvs are used for now.

I say no because I dont use the cvs much at all.

I for sure dont think cvs should be made even easier to capture then they are now. Thats what would happen with fariz's idea.
