I usually catch this show after I wake up on the HC, Today I realized it really, really sucks. I've seen two people I recognize in the show John Laraqutte (sp) and I noticed the black guy from sliders and a whole bunch of cheesy movies like Congo ( I can't remember his name). But anyway he was playing a native islander in the show today!!! I was on the ground in tears!!

And whats with pappy flying a F4U-4???

Then I got to thinkin, Ive never seen the finale of the show, tell me? does pappy get shot down? Is he listed MIA? Please let me know!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I can't believe that you've never noticed the suckage of BSS until now. Don't get me wrong, I love the show, but it has NOTHING to do with high quality television.

As far as pappy getting shot down in the finale... I don't know, but I wouldn't imagine that this show saw the end coming. I think the network probably did something like this:

Network: "Hey Blacksheep Squadron, how you doing today?
BSS: "I'm doing all right, how are you doing giant television network?"
Network: "I'm doing well... Say, what's that over there, behind you?"
BSS: "Where?"
Network: BAM

Blacksheep squadron probably never saw it coming.

HEH I watch it everyday when I get home and on the weekend mornings.  It's cheesy as hell and totaly non-historical but they still show some good footage from time to time.  Most of the acting is absolutely aweful too ;)  I always crack up looking at the 20mm sticking out of the wing of "some" of their "f4u-1d's"   When I was like 7 years old I lived for this show, durring the original tv series.  I think the last one he gets shot down, though it was nothing like it was in the book "ba ba blacksheep", actually he gets shot down several times in the whole series hehe.

My favorite part of the show is his relationship with his mechanic :)  damn college boys!

Remember the P-38 episode?

They show the thing firing from the WINGS.. MWAHAHAH. That cracked me up.

But that mechanic was right-on when he pointed to the P-38 and told the black sheep:

"Now thats a REAL plane!" :D :D

When the Media wants to turn out a War TV show, theyll do anything to make it cool, F4U4's were prolly the only Hogs they could get thier hands on, but come on!! do some modifications!! Hell they can make a Texan look like a zero (sorta;)) but they cant take the 20's off a Corsair?????

Ive never seen the P38 episode, but the thought of cheesy gun flashes on the wings of a P38 makes me not want to see it after all.

The Media has a long history of "faking"

2001: Pearl Harbor, the shot of the Japanese Task force!! Didnt fool me. And the Spit V's and Spit IX's in the BOB?, come on!!

19??:Hunt for Red October, When the F14 crashes on the Deck??
Nice cut to the panther or the banshee, Whatever!!

1986:Top Gun, F5's as MiGs!!! need i say more!!

As you can see the Media doesnt do a good job on faking, at least to the trained eye.

Of course its crap, just chill and enjoy.

I was going to mention the "Nimitz Class" Japanese carrier in Pearl Harbor also.

Check out the F4U's crashing on the deck in Midway.

If you want a real hoot, watch Iron Eagle 3 or 4 or 8, the one with the WW2 era planes. The guy in the "Zero" actually kamikazi's into another plane, and the me109 looks like ...well you check it out.

this flak-laden pile of action-genre debris never manages to rise above the admittedly low horizon it's set for itself. I'd check this one out, though, if only for the fact that the male bonding scenes between these four axis/allied warriors are so enchantingly inept. God, they just don't make bad movies like they used to.

Yeah, they didn't destroy a REAL F-14 on the deck. Cheap Lazy bastards I want John McTiernan's head on a pike!

I think it comes down to cost benefit in the end. I mean, sure I would have LIKED to get the Spruance destroyers and Knox Frigates out of Pearl Harbor, but was that offense worth altering, considering the percentage of people who would even notice them? Besides, as following this board should show you, no matter what you do people are going to find something to complain about.

The p38 episode was one of the best ones.  That dude was a score potato :D bigtime! and he died getting target fixated trying to rob a kill from Pappy.

Just so you guys know,  I think I remember somebody on the history channel saying that Pappy Boington was an advisor for the show :)  I imagine he had a hard time w/ Hollywood ;)

What % of the people who watched Pearl Harbor were "trained" enough to pick out the fact that the Spitfires were not Mk 1a models?  Now how many of the people who watched Pearl Harbor even know a) what a Spitfire is and b) that they had many different variants?

Now tell me why they should spend the extra money to enhance a scene to appease the extremely small % of trained people watching the movie when their goal is to make money and entertain the masses (in that order) and not make a documentary?

Seriously, did the fact that there were Hispano cannons sticking out of the Spitfire wings really affect your enjoyment of the film?  Next you'll be telling me that it should have taken Darth Maul longer to get from Coruscant to Tatooine in Episode I.  :D  Suspension of disbelief.  Sometimes you gotta apply it to quasi-historical flicks as well as the sci-fi ones.  :)

Col. Boyington Died in 1988. Robert Conrad, the guy who played him, met him on the set of the show, where he was indeed an advisor. I imagine that he got along well with Hollywood, since the show existed to perpetuate his own vision of himself and his squadron. I wonder what a night on the town was like with him and Conrad? (although pappy had probably stopped drinking by then)
