US Soldier captured?

Then executed?

The soldier who fell out the back of chinook (after having been hit by RPG) was said to have survived the fall only to be captured then shot to death by enemy forces.

Has anyone else heard this?  My source was evening news, brokaw I think.

"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Soon after a U.S. helicopter was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade Monday, a Navy SEAL fell from the Chinook and was dragged away by three al Qaeda fighters and executed.

It was a horrifying scene that transpired as his commanders watched in agony the images beamed back from a reconnaissance plane, U.S. officials said Tuesday."

I never expected them to take prisoners.

I'll also wager that we don't take quite as many as we could after this incident makes the rounds of the troops in contact

That's the way it has started out in so many conflicts; what would be different now?

That's the kind of thing that started it between the Russians and Afgans when Russia was in there.

Fortunately for the Afgans we are typically more restrained when it comes to recipricating.  They'll have to push on us harder than they pushed on the Russians before we start violating our principals, at least I hope so.

Our system is less accepting of barbaric responses to this sort of provocation than the Soviet system was.

I feel badly for our soldier's family and for his comrades.  I appriciate that he was willing to place himself on the line for his country and I hope our national reslove does not waver due to these recent casualties.

If it does, I'll start fearing that our nation has lost its backbone.

It is a tragic fact that in the past POW's have accidently fallen out of US choppers. Who knows. It might start happening over there.

The parallels between the Soviet occupation and today are shocking.

First there is a overwhelming and fast victory.

Then a new government in Kabul is installed.

Then more and more news reach us that only the cities are secure and in the land the clans are fighting each other.

Then it comes clear that the puppet regime in Kabul will not survive 12 hours without the help of the superpower.

And then suddenly the fighting increases and the losses raise.

I fear that the war in Afghanistan will not be finished in a few months or even years and that more negative news about losses of european and US forces will appear.

You'll find it rare for any 'special' unit from any country to take prisoners - its not how they operate.

I know someone who was in the NZ SAS and served in vietnam, he said the rarely took prisoners, as they used SLR's (308s) and unlike the puny US M-16's 1 hit from an SLR always resulted in a fatal wound.

What???

They didn't provide him with a culturally appropriate meal??

Yep pretty barbaric, but I hear we killed several hundred of the bastards in a single action against a large formation soon after, so maybe we got some revenge there.

I heard the other 6 or 7 died trying to go back and get their dead buddy. Sounds like they were waiting for the chopper to return.

Also heard they have their families holed up with them. Freakin savages. We are tryin to fight a civilized war against savages. We have to play by the rules while they don't or WE are the bad guys

Kill them all and let Allah sort em out. By ANY means necessary..

They are more like JemHadar-warriors. Absolutely brainless fanaticals and ready to make suicide operations only to take some others with them.
