Why is it a newbie is not allowed to get a kill?
« on: March 06, 2002, 02:46:49 PM »
I went for a sortie in a 109 today, and while I was flying around I killed a c47 trying to resupply a base that knights were capturing, a 109, and an La7 that succeeded in killing a goon i was trying to defend.  Once the LA7 was dead, and out of cannon i started rtbing to base, when on my six came an La7.  ( I am assuming it was the same guy, i was on the deck rtbing, and there had been no other cons when I started rtbing.)  anyway, the la7 came from my long six, determined to get me.  I called for help, and a couple of friendly F4u's hi I guess deterred him from getting me.  He turned around.  anyway, I was on final for landing, when i cked my 6 one last time, and low and behold, a 109 was behind me coming as fast as he could.  Now I rtb'ed to A1, because I felt a4 was too close to the fight at a5 to rtb safely too.  Anyway, again on final, this 109 is closing on me.I touch down on the field, and the 109 is 2.0 k away on the deck following me.  I figure, ok, he'll pull up cause im within ack range, on the runway, plus im landing.
I hit the brake, but start to rudder my way at an angle incase this guy tries to strafe.  Sure enuf, without missing a beat, this guy flies straight through the ack and strafes me on the runway, killing me.  Turns out, this is the same guy that I shot down flying the C47.

Who is so LAME that they take offense to being shot down in a c47 carrying supplies that they would do this?  And this is not the first time in the few days I've been on that some sort of vendetta type thing exists between the guys I shot down and coming back up to kill me, I guess just to prove to themselves that they could.

I dont understand.

Ah, JohnBoy Walton goes to war   :)

First, welcome to Aces High

Two, wouldn't you do the same?  I mean, if you had a chance to up a fighter and nail the guy that sent you down in smoke, wouldn't you?  Sure!  Why not!  Its called rivalry!

As a bomber pilot, I've seen fighters I've shot down re-up and take another try at me.  Its great to see them use the same, poor technique (slowly climbing on my six) and blaming the game, connection, buff guns are too powerful, etc etc for their poor tactics :)

You'll see a lot of it, don't frett it

From your post it sounds like newbies are allowed to get kills.

Why aren't you allowed to land after getting kills? Now that's a different question.  Some might argue that killing a C-47 is lame, others might argue that killing a lander is lame.

You might consider both as simulated recreations of actual WW2 air combat.

I do it all the time. :D

You don't want a kill, you want a FREE kill. lol.

Why did he get offended by you killing his goon?  Dunno.
Why did you get offended by him killing your 109?

NEVER assume someone won't sacrifice his plane to get even.  You deserved to die because you made a false assumption and underestimated your enemies determination.

Besides, you missed the perfect oppertunity to drag him through the ack until he died then strafe his chute.

Then you gotta put a little ;) on channel 1.  He'd really be frothing at the mouth.  Lol.

I've dedicated WHOLE evenings to mercilessly hunting down someone who killed me once. :p   Feeeeeeel the HaTe.

By definition if you have gained sufficient skill to operate successfully in the MA, you aren't a newbie anymore. Conversely, if you are a newbie, you haven't yet developed those skills and don't deserve a kill ;)...

If someone shot me down and I was able to get back in the air and kill him as he touched down on the runway, I call that justice rather than a crime. I am sure he would have been happier to finish his C-47 run than have you come up and get him. You rained on his party, so he caught it in a bucket and rained on yours :D

Complaining because a guy who was flying a defenseless C-47 got even with his killer... hmmm... possibly qualifies as a whine

Heh, well I see that that c47 pilot and I are kindred spirits :D

There are actually pilots like me, who would actually take a shot at paybacks.

Yes, mean spirited, razor toten snakes-in-the-grass that would drown a kitten for a kill.  Guys who will vulch you as you try to take off and defend a base that they are trying to capture!  Guys who will give you a snoot full of 20 mms on a HO.  Guys who will actually use wing tactics!  (er sorry I should have said gang bang you).

Aces High, is a game with fast planes, big engines, big guns, and even bigger egos, sissies need not apply.

Sorry for you to be so disillusioned son, but if you wanna run with these Big Dogs you have to get offa the porch.

Have some more valium, pop a prozac, and talk to your therapist.

Either that or be a man, get back in the air, and send that C47 pilot walking back to base carrying his private parts in a paper bag.

Choice is yours...

I know what choice I would make in a case like that.

Congratulations on your first whine.
I hope there are many more from where that one came from.
Please use the best ones when it is I that shoots you down and your chute.

Although, the "Johnboy Walton" thing went right over the top of my head.

There was an old TV show called the Waltons. The setting is in the eastern US mountains just before WWII. A traditional rural American family (little house on the prairie with trucks and about 6 more kids plus grandparents... big family). Johnboy was the oldest son and the narrator of the show. He was the epitamy of American innocence, alway seeing everything in black and white/good and bad. He would think having someone shoot at him at all wasn't very nice, even if it is a war...

Gasper, that takes a real man to make that kind of statement.

Welcome to AH brother! :)

Now get a broken beer bottle, or straight razor, or other weapon of you choice.  (I prefer an ice-pick or a screwdriver, although the old Marine in me likes the K-Bar)  Go find that C47 pilot, and ... and...

And above all have fun! :)

Hell we all get shot down, that is part of the game.  No big deal really gettin shot down... I'm serious.  What really separates the men from the boys (and the boys from the idiots) is how they handle being shot down.

C U up there :D

Gasper, so as not to shock your sense of morals... I would NEVER bail out if I were you!     These people do all kinds of unspeakable things to helpless pilots dangling from the silk.

Not that I've EVER upped from a capped base only to chase down that annoying "chute" icon that was just vulching  ;)
