My brother says our first mistake was letting them come up near the fire and sit next to the dogs.

:D

(Yankee and Ronni... note that that's my brother's cocktail party line... has the same effect as that old "when EF Hutton talks")

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Dont be so sure its not true, just because some website says so.

I easily believe something of its like has been published. Specially if its before the 60's.

Heck, just talk to your great grandparents if they're still around... and even your grandparents.

What I read there , with the exception of the last highlighted portion, is what i've heard my own grandmother and my great grandma (RIP) say their lives were like back then. The parts we consider abusive and demeaning to women were defacto, unspoken social laws. The first 4 points made there.. oh gawd have I seen my grannies lecture my SISTER on being mighty important when she gets married.

I know that was once the done thing, but i'm not sure it would have been in a magazine. What were women doing reading magazines anyway, there's bound to be some housework to do!

Doesnt it look like the first 4 points are attached to the picture and the article. Then someone added the rest? Perhaps the first 4 are true (as in part of the original article) and the rest are eh gathered from other sources?

IIRC there never was a magazine called "Housekeeping Monthly".

That is the basis of calling it a hoax.

That doesn't change the fact that the sentiments it describes were common, they just weren't openly stated like that.  Certainly not in a women's magazine.  That would be about the fastest way to swell the numbers of radical feminists.

Are you guys trying to imply that your wives don't do all of the above?  You should have held out, there's still plenty of women like that out there.  These statements perfectly describe MY wife.
